We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiana Littlejohn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiana, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my partnership with God. I firmly believe that my faith is what has brought me this far and allowed me to live out my dreams through my brand. When I knew for sure that pursuing Black Female Owned was a part of my purpose, I locked in and I’ve been going ever since. I’ve worked extremely hard and although I’m not where I want to be, my growth has inspired me to keep going and to see it all the way through. I pray daily because I’m nothing without the CEO of the Universe and I believe that he guides my steps, even through opposition and my own mistakes. For clarification, I am a Christian.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Black Female Owned, LLC or BFO is a Lifestyle Brand that offers a variety of products including women’s apparel, men’s apparel, coffee, home and living products and accessories. We are eco-friendly and offer a select few organic products including our popular “Logo Tee” and “Logo Tote Bag”. My company is also Veteran Owned.

I started my company in 2018 while working full-time for the Cleveland County Department of Social Services and also fulfilling my duties as a Religious Affairs NCO for the North Carolina Army National Guard during drill weekends.

I had a dream of empowering others to fulfill their God-given visions. I strongly felt that my positions of service to my country, state and local community were preparing me to serve as an entrepreneur. I awarded my first business grant to The Black Light Foundation, a Black Female Owned Non-Profit Organization out of Miami, FL dedicated to building awareness and creating spaces for physical, spiritual, mental health and wellness. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Colorado Technical University and my Master of Business Administration from Columbia Southern University.

Black Female Owned is not only a brand, it’s a movement that challenges others to think outside of the box. We offer products for everyone, not just Black Female Entrepreneurs. The mission is to honor the Black Female for the courage and strength it takes to pursue a dream and provide a safe place for them to feel supported; However, the vision includes providing quality products for everyone to enjoy, no matter their race or gender identification.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would probably surprise her with a week long trip of self-care, retail therapy and good food. I live near Charlotte, North Carolina and there’s a lot of exciting things to do. I would probably suggest eating brunch at The Famous Toastery, Tupelo Honey or Sweet Crunch while on our trip. There’s also some great spa places including The Invigory and Mood House. We would go shopping at the most popular malls which are SouthPark, Concord Mills and Northlake. We’d also have to hit the Taboo Lounge & Hookah Bar or Members Only Tasting Room & Social Bar for good vibes and drinks!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to my family and everyone who has supported my business thus far. I often refer to the women who buy from me as #BFOBABES and I’m still working on a name for my men supporters! I’ll never forget the feeling of opening Instagram one day and seeing that someone who purchased a Black Female CEO Crewneck had worn it and tagged me in it. Before that day, I had only been successful at selling coffee/tea mugs, my apparel at the time did not sell and the post really sparked an interest in my apparel and other products. I also want to give a special shoutout to Johnika Harris who is widely known for her brand Milano Di Rouge. I had the pleasure of sending her some of my products and she actually posted them twice on her Instagram page and tagged me! She’s one of my biggest inspirations and I reflect on the moment that I was able to connect with her a lot. Her brand has been worn by so many celebrities and she makes me feel as though the same thing can happen for me. I will always be grateful for her heart to support me by tagging me, growing an engaged audience on social media can be challenging.
