We had the good fortune of connecting with Houston Patton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Houston, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose a creative career because I want to enjoy life to the fullest. When I realized Jesus was calling me to be a musician, I felt empowered, motivated, and capable to be a musician. In general, artist or not. It can be very difficult to make ends meet in this world, but I am willing to work even harder to do so as a musician. Work does not feel like work when I am pursuing something in my music career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a musician. I started playing saxophone at the age of 7 because my dad is a saxophonist as well. I remember being so small wanting to play the saxophone, but my hands were too small to hold the instrument. Today, I play professionally and it is such a blessing to see how far I have come. Who knew that playing “Hot Cross Buns” at 7 meant I was on the path to such an amazing career. I have learned to trust in Jesus, and have confidence that the gift I have received is worth sharing with the world. Love, joy, encouragement, and power are the values that I want to uphold most in my music. I believe that music makes the world a better place, and I am willing to spend the rest of my life as living proof of that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend that was visiting for a week, the first thing I’m thinking about is what food I will show them. I love showing people new foods and I will learn to cook it if I have no other choice. The next thing I would do is look for nice parks in the area to go to. I love nature walks and I think it’s important to get outside. I would also find some soccer games to play in because that’s something I enjoy most outside of music, Then I would look for different jam sessions and concerts around me so that we could check out some of the local musicians.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my brother Josh. He has always encouraged me to be the best person I can be. I can always ask him questions, an learn from his guidance. He has taught me what it means to work hard, and to be a good person while doing so.
