We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek Worley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derek, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
This is an interesting topic & one I have been working through over the last several years. Something I learned from the book, “The One Thing” – is that nothing worthwhile ever happens in the middle. It’s only in the extremes where life truly feels worthwhile. I’ve discovered that the idea of a work/life balance as we understand it is a myth. So, instead of trying to balance those things together I have focused on living in the extremes on both ends.. So when I am working, I am ALL IN working. No distractions. When I am with the family and enjoying family time, I am ALL IN on being with my family. I owe that to them. I also owe it to my business as well to give it my full focus at the appropriate hours. That being said, I don’t focus on balancing work & life at the same time. I live in the extremes of each because my family & clients deserve that.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty Atlanta Partners. I have been in real estate full time for 6.5 years. My wife came on & joined the team approximately 1 year ago as my transaction coordinator. Working together with her has been one of the best things within my professional career.

I would say what sets me apart from other real estate agents is my willingness to accept & understand that every single situation is unique. There is no “one size fits all” solution within this industry. I am always willing to serve where I can, but I am no “yes man” & I am the first to tell someone that I may or may not be the person they need to handle a transaction for them. I am extremely relationally driven which means I want to get to the heart of the situation first before discussing how I feel I can serve them. I want to truly understand the “Why” behind the transaction. Things like:

What is motivating this transition in your life?
How would this buy/sell impact your life in a positive way?
What would this size home do for you & your family?
How soon does this need to happen for you?

To me, just simply saying “I can help someone buy or sell anytime” doesn’t truly do my clients justice, because each transaction is a unique family with a unique situation & a unique reason for wanting to buy or sell. If I don’t tap into that specific reason I can’t properly serve them. Understanding the humanity behind the transaction is what truly separates me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man, I would say anything sports around the area is great. You can never go wrong with an Atlanta Braves game. A Falcons, or Hawks game is always a blast as well. Athens is a great hang out spot. Great food, good drinks, & an awesome atmosphere. My wife, Kassandra & I love Nashville & Charleston. We love both the city life of Nashville & how it somehow feels like a mix of country & city, while Charleston is very relaxing & historic which we love when we want to slow down a bit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First off, I owe everything I am to Jesus! Without him my life would ultimately be meaningless. He is my Savior & I owe all to Him! Secondly, my family deserves so much recognition. I am who I am because of my family. My wife has been one of my biggest supports system’s in the world. My true ride-or-die. My dad has been & is my biggest role model. I learned what true & dedicated work ethic looks like from him. My mother and my brother are my best friends and the fact I can go to them and lean on them with anything has always been something I take pride in. My son Asher has done more to impact my life than he will ever know. His birth taught me what it means to selflessly provide for your family and to put ones family before self. My princess Mila has taught me that the bond between a daddy & his daughter is one of immense depth & pride. I am the wealthiest man in the world because of the bond I have with my family.
