Meet David Kensler | Commercial Photographer/Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Kensler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, how does your business help the community?
I’m a commercial photographer and filmmaker working primarily with local and small businesses in Georgia. A lot of them are great at what they do but their marketing content hasn’t kept up. In a half-day or full day, we can come in and completely transform a company’s web and social media presence at a price point that actually makes sense for a small business owner. The key is content that works across platforms — businesses don’t want to spend $20,000 on a TV commercial. They want to spend $5,000 on content that works everywhere and keeps working for months or years. Most of my clients are independent operators who are betting everything on their business succeeding. If better content helps them compete, that’s meaningful work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kenrick Media started as a side hustle. I was working as a recruiter and shooting behind-the-scenes and video content for another photographer, Katya Vilchyk, who is still a huge mentor to me. I was learning the craft from the inside — watching how a professional shoot actually runs, how you solve problems on set, how you deal with clients. Then five days before Christmas 2023 I got laid off, and instead of finding another corporate job I decided to go all in. I haven’t looked back.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best thing about Atlanta is how close the city and the country are to each other. Start in Midtown — Georgia Aquarium, a show at the Fox, the Atlanta Symphony. Then get a tattoo and some vegan food in Little Five Points. Then head north and hike Kennesaw Mountain or find the old mill ruins and waterfall near downtown Roswell. You can do all of that in a day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Katya Vilchyk is one of the best photographers in Georgia, and she has been an amazing mentor to me.
