We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvette Gavin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yvette, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be about my ability to believe for the fulfillment of my dreams against all odds and to act upon my faith to achieve the desires of my heart. I want people to remember that I didn’t quit nor did I cave in when life got hard. Instead I maintained my faith and that yielded much success, joy, and peace for me. My legacy is indeed all about strong faith and an ability to love others.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Teaching others how to excel in the corporate environment was the motivation behind starting Yvette Gavin Consulting. With over 20 years of leadership experience in corporate America, I wanted to help others to overcome the career growth barriers I witnessed each and everyday in the workplace. No, it wasn’t easy transitioning from a high-paying corporate position to the uncertainties of entrepreneurship. But, I am so happy that I did it! See, for me starting Yvette Gavin Consulting was more than starting a business; it was the start of a ministry. What I do every day is a calling and a fulfillment of divine purpose. The classrooms, the stages, and the TV studio are all my pulpit. I deliver training from the heart. Where that might sound wired to some, it has yielded a loyal client base for me and extremely satisfied ratings. In May 2020, we established a college scholarship fund for high school seniors. Our scholarship includes a cash award and four years of career coaching. We are very happy to be at a place where we’ve grown a business within four short years that can give back to the community in this way. Additionally, this year we expanded our business with the launch of a television talk show, Faith At Work with Yvette Gavin. The TV show allows me to focus on a long-standing passion of mine and that is to support women of faith in the marketplace.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I LOVE the spa! From the Ritz Carlton at Lake Oconee and Chateau Elan for my weekend stays to Spa Sydell and Natural Body for quick bi-monthly messages, my close friends are accustomed to sharing these spa experiences with me. Another thing I lOVE doing with friends is eating good food. Some of my favorite spots are Ruth’s Chris, Bone Fish, Capital Grill, and Nan Thai Fine Dining.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shout out to my husband of 33-years, Mr. James Gavin, Jr. Others who deserve some credit and recognition in my story are my mom, Lois; son, Jamison; daughter, Courtney; sisters, Wylene and LaWanda; and my brother, Andy. These people have been my rock. They each have invested in me in tremendous ways and I will forever be grateful to them.
