Meet Jong Yoon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jong Yoon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jong, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After many years of working in accounting and finance, I became semi-retired in 2022. Around that time, members of the Korean American community began reaching out to me with questions about tax returns, IRS notices, and other tax-related matters.
At first, I was simply trying to help people better understand their tax situations. As I continued answering similar questions, I realized that I was often explaining the same topics repeatedly. I thought it might be more helpful to create a blog where people could find educational information and answers to common tax questions.
That experience led me to start TaxGuide.org. My hope was to share practical tax information in Korean and explain complicated topics in a way that would be easier to understand.
Over time, more people began reaching out for assistance, and this gradually led me to establish Monieguide Inc. I still have much to learn, but I am grateful for the opportunity to use my experience as a CPA to support individuals, families, and small business owners.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is simple. I help clients understand tax and financial matters by explaining complicated issues in plain language. My goal is to help them better understand their situation so they can make informed decisions.
What sets my work apart is my focus on education. I do not want clients to simply sign a tax return or follow advice without understanding the reasons behind it. I want them to know what the issue is, what options may be available, and what steps they can consider next.
One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing a client finally understand a tax or financial issue that had been confusing or stressful. When a client gains clarity and feels more confident about making a decision, I find that very meaningful.
Getting to this point has not always been easy. Tax and financial matters can be complicated, and working with people requires patience, clear communication, and trust. I have also learned that I cannot help everyone or make everyone happy. Some clients may not agree with my suggestions or may decide not to take action. In those situations, I try to respect their decisions, recognize my own limitations, and continue doing my best for those I can help.
The most important lessons I have learned are to remain humble, continue learning, and communicate clearly. My goal is not only to prepare tax returns or answer financial questions. I hope to guide clients with honesty, patience, and practical knowledge so they can make better decisions for themselves, their families, and their businesses.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting the area for a week, I would want to show them both the natural beauty of Georgia and the vibrant Asian community in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
I would begin with Stone Mountain, where we could enjoy the scenery, walk around the park, and spend time outdoors. I would also take them to Callaway Gardens, a peaceful and beautiful place to relax and enjoy nature.
For a city experience, I would take them to the Georgia Aquarium. It is one of Atlanta’s most impressive attractions and an enjoyable place for visitors of all ages.
Food would also be an important part of the trip. I would take my friend to a Korean barbecue restaurant, an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant, and H Mart. H Mart is more than a grocery store. It is also a great place to experience Korean and Asian food culture in the Atlanta area.
What I enjoy most about this region is the combination of Southern culture and a growing Asian community. The Atlanta metropolitan area has many Korean restaurants, Asian markets, cafés, churches, and community events. I believe this trip would give my friend a good introduction to Georgia while also showing them the Korean American community that has become such an important part of the region.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my wife. She has always supported me and cared for our family with love, patience, and strength. She is hardworking, intelligent, and one of the strongest people I know.
At times, she has pushed me harder than I wanted to be pushed, and I did not always appreciate it in the moment. Looking back, however, I understand that she was encouraging me to become a better person, husband, and father. Everything she did came from her love for me and our family.
Whatever success I have achieved would not have been possible without her. I am deeply grateful for everything she has done for me and for our two sons, who are now 19 and 21 years old.
