We had the good fortune of connecting with Tre Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tre, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Staying consistent. I know it sounds cliche, however podcasting is more than just you talking in a microphone with a friend or two. Podcasting is equivalent to any other endeavor you want to be successful at and flourish from. Flexibility, time management skills, and a lot of communication fall under that umbrella as well. My business partner Scott & I have dedicated endless time when it comes to our craft and with that comes working overtime each and every week. Coming up with topics is second nature to us since its a hundred percent authentic; Our challenge is the behind the scene work that people don’t see or aren’t privy too and part of that starts with the foundation of holding one another accountable and staying CONSISTENT on are best or worst days.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is having a podcast and utilizing that platform to vocalize, inform, & educate the people that’s apart of our culture on what’s going on in our own backyards and globally. We do our diligence and try to cover an array of topics including pop- culture, sports, domestic and international news, and having those comedic but yet compelling conversations as well. We also try to enlighten and include our supporters/listeners in every conversation we have since they are the most important and deserve all of their flowers. I would say I’m most proud of my working along side with one of my best friends. I’ve heard individuals denounce working with friends since it can definitely be a difficult task separating business and friendship. Working with Scott has been phenomenal, that guy is everything you look for in a business partner and brother. I’m also proud of the listenership we’ve created in almost three years in the making I love them! Was it easy? Absolutely not, in the moments where it’s not easy that’s when you either let the moment derfine you or you conquer the moment and improvise. I want the world to know that we’re two black men that authentically found a niche a stuck to it. No we’re not where we want to be quite yet but the journey is the most elegant yet humble part of this experience. In a world where everyone is now glued to their phone, why not educate, humor, and inform the people in your community and create a business from it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Friend coming in town? Listen, the greatest thing about Atlanta is there’s always a move no matter what day of the week it is. Me personally, I’m naturally laid back so when it comes to catching a vibe I am the vibe. If my friend is in town for a week first stop is always food, since I’m vegan I’ll probably grab a bite at Slutty Vegan, Hippie Hibachi, or another lush spot. Depending on what time of the year it is we can catch an Atlanta Hawks game, or hit The Battery get a fews drinks and see the world champs play. As I mentioned I am vegan so with a healthy diet comes a healthy lifestyle which means we have to hit the gym! Cardio, chest day, leg day you name it but best believe we putting some work in. I’m sure we’ll probably hit a lounge two in city and that means late at light so Insomnia cookie is on my list also to end the night. Nothing wrong with kicking it at home either play some good music, drinks, and games.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to shoutout and express my gratitude to my parents. The love, principles and morales that were instilled in me till this day has molded me into the man I am today. In addition, a few books that deserve flowers for my growth and perspective include “The Four Agreements”, “The Way of The Superior Man”, “UnLearn 101 Simple Truths For a Better Life”, & “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F”
