We had the good fortune of connecting with Torria Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Torria, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
When I feel like giving up, I return to the reason I began this journey in the first place. I remind myself that my purpose has always been greater than my own comfort or discouragement. I think about the people I have the privilege to serve—their struggles, their victories, and the trust they have placed in me. I recognize that my perseverance can be a source of hope for someone who is fighting to stay on the path of recovery.

The thought of walking away weighs heavily on me because I know that my absence could leave a void in the lives of those who depend on encouragement, accountability, and compassion. While I understand that every person’s recovery is ultimately their own responsibility, I also know that showing up consistently can make a meaningful difference. Remembering this renews my commitment when my strength begins to waver.

So, instead of allowing temporary discouragement to define my future, I choose to remember my purpose. I choose to keep going not because the road is easy, but because the mission is worth the sacrifice. Every life touched, every setback overcome, and every person who finds hope again reminds me that perseverance is not just about enduring hardship; it is about remaining faithful to the calling that inspired me to begin.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart is not simply that I am a licensed mental health professional, but that I lead with authenticity, compassion, and a deep belief in every person’s capacity for healing and transformation. I believe people deserve to be seen beyond their diagnosis, heard without judgment, and empowered to rediscover their own strength. My work is rooted in meeting people where they are while helping them envision where they can go.

What I am most proud of is the opportunity to walk alongside individuals during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Whether supporting someone through recovery, helping a family navigate life’s challenges, or witnessing a client reclaim hope after believing it was lost, those moments remind me why I chose this profession. Success, to me, is measured not only by clinical outcomes but by the trust my clients place in me and the resilience they discover within themselves.

My professional journey was not easy. Like many who enter the helping profession, I encountered demanding academic expectations, emotionally difficult experiences, and moments of self-doubt. I learned early that caring for others requires a commitment to caring for myself as well. I persevered by remaining grounded in my purpose, leaning on mentors, family, friends, and my faith, and remembering that every challenge was shaping me into the clinician I was becoming. Those experiences taught me resilience, humility, and the importance of lifelong learning.

Along the way, I have learned that healing is rarely linear. Growth often comes through setbacks, and progress is built one courageous step at a time. I have also learned that empathy is one of the most powerful tools we possess. When people feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued, meaningful change becomes possible. These lessons continue to shape both my professional practice and my personal life.

I want the world to know that my work is about more than providing therapy it is about restoring hope. My brand is built on creating a safe, compassionate space where individuals feel empowered to heal, grow, and thrive. I believe mental health care should be accessible, culturally responsive, and rooted in dignity. Every person has a story, every story deserves to be heard, and every individual has the potential to write a new chapter.

Above all, I want to be known as someone who leads with purpose, serves with compassion, and believes that healing is possible. My mission is to help others bloom where they are planted, embrace their resilience, and recognize that their past does not define their future. That is the legacy I hope to leave through my work and the story I continue to write every day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were planning the perfect week in Florida for professional adult women, it would be all about balancing relaxation, culture, great food, meaningful conversation, and a little nightlife.

We’d start the trip in Miami with brunch overlooking the water, followed by a visit to the vibrant Wynwood Arts District to explore colorful murals, local galleries, and boutique shops. As the sun sets, we’d enjoy rooftop cocktails with live music before ending the evening dancing to Latin rhythms or enjoying a sophisticated jazz lounge.

The next stop would be Fort Lauderdale, where we’d spend the day cruising the Intracoastal Waterway, relaxing on the beach, and indulging in fresh seafood at a waterfront restaurant. The evening would include happy hour, live entertainment, and an elegant wine bar where conversations flow just as easily as the music.

Midweek, we’d head to Tampa and St. Petersburg to experience the city’s growing arts and culinary scene. We’d explore museums, stroll along the waterfront, enjoy local coffee shops, and dine at chef-inspired restaurants before catching live music or a comedy show downtown.

No Florida itinerary would be complete without visiting Orlando—but not just for the theme parks. We’d enjoy luxury spas, upscale shopping, rooftop dining, and vibrant entertainment districts where professionals can unwind, network, and simply enjoy themselves after a full day.

To slow the pace, we’d spend a day in 30A or Destin along the Emerald Coast. Picture white-sand beaches, turquoise water, bike rides through charming beach communities, sunset dinners, and quiet moments that remind us how important it is to recharge.

Throughout the week, the experience wouldn’t just be about where we go it would be about who we’re with. The best memories are created over shared meals, genuine laughter, inspiring conversations, and moments that remind us to celebrate both our accomplishments and ourselves.

As a licensed mental health professional, I know how easy it is for women to spend so much of their lives caring for everyone else. This itinerary is a reminder that joy, rest, friendship, and adventure are not luxuries—they’re essential. Florida offers the perfect backdrop for reconnecting with yourself, building meaningful relationships, and embracing a life that is both successful and well lived.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends are the heart of my everyday life. They have stood beside me through moments of joy and seasons of uncertainty, offering unwavering love, encouragement, and grace. Their faith in me has given me the courage to grow, while their support has provided the strength to persevere through life’s challenges. They have nurtured my dreams, celebrated my successes, and gently lifted me through my setbacks. Because of their constant presence and unconditional love, I have been able to grow with confidence and bloom where I have been planted. They have not only shaped the person I am today but have also inspired the person I continue striving to become.
