We had the good fortune of connecting with Shutti Abdullah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shutti, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Shuttingstar Studio came from a desire to bridge the gap between technical CGI and high-end advertising. I began my journey completely self-taught, spending countless hours experimenting with product advertising, cinematic lighting, and 3D realism.

As I progressed, I realized that many premium brands had incredible products but struggled to translate that high-end feeling into digital spaces. Traditional photography had inherent limitations, and standard 3D rendering often felt cold or clinical. I wanted to build a studio that treated CGI as an art form, combining hyper-realistic technical skills with strong commercial instincts to make products feel cinematic and memorable online. Establishing Shuttingstar Studio was my way of evolving from a solo creative journey into a structured business that empowers brands to completely transform their visual storytelling.

At Shuttingstar Studio, we specialize in high-end 3D product renders, animations, and commercial-style ad creatives. What sets us apart is our focus on bridging the gap between technical CGI and strategic brand storytelling. We don’t just create 3D models; we craft cinematic campaigns. By combining hyper-realistic lighting, dynamic simulations, and deliberate art direction, we transform physical products into visually striking digital experiences that instantly capture attention and drive real commercial value.

My path to where I am today was far from easy. I am entirely self-taught, which meant spending countless hours experimenting, failing, and problem-solving independently with limited resources. Beyond mastering the complex software, the steepest learning curve was navigating the business side of the creative industry. In the beginning, building credibility and earning the trust of brands in the emerging CGI space was a major challenge. I had to learn how to pitch creative concepts effectively, price my work accurately, and articulate the concrete business value of premium CGI over traditional photography.

I overcame these hurdles through absolute consistency and by refusing to compromise on my creative standards. I treated every single project no matter how small as a portfolio piece.

Today, I am most proud of building a distinct, globally-recognized creative identity for Shuttingstar Studio from the ground up. Seeing premium brands connect with our work and trust us to visually represent their products has been incredibly rewarding. If there is one thing I want the world to know about our brand, it’s that we are driven by curiosity, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of visual excellence. We are here to help forward-thinking brands elevate their marketing and redefine what is possible in digital advertising.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Lagos for a week, I would want to show them a side of the city that perfectly blends our rich artistic heritage, modern creative energy, and coastal beauty. Our itinerary would be a curated mix of visual inspiration, great design, and premium relaxation.

Here is how we would spend the perfect week:

We would start by soaking in the immense creative scale of the Nike Art Gallery. It’s a stunning four-story monument packed with traditional and contemporary Nigerian art. Walking through the endless rooms of textiles, sculptures, and beadwork is pure visual fuel for any creative. To contrast that traditional richness with sleek, modern minimalism, our next stop would be the Red Door Gallery in Victoria Island. It’s a beautifully designed, intimate space that showcases thought-provoking contemporary African art with an edge.

For a change of pace, I’d take them to the Lekki Conservation Centre early in the morning. There is nothing quite like taking a walk above the tree canopy on Africa’s longest suspended canopy walkway to clear your head and appreciate the natural side of the peninsula. After a morning in the reserve, we would head straight to Landmark Beach to catch the ocean breeze. It’s a beautifully organized, vibrant waterfront spot that has a fantastic social energy.

When it comes to food, we would focus on places that treat dining as a complete aesthetic experience. A must-visit would be NOK by Alara. The restaurant is an absolute masterpiece of contemporary African design. Sitting in their vibrant garden while enjoying uniquely reimagined, elevated African classics is the perfect way to spend a warm Lagos evening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate this shoutout to two crucial groups of people who made Shuttingstar Studio possible: my personal support system and our early believers.

First, I owe an immense amount of gratitude to my family. Transitioning into the highly technical world of 3D CGI and building a business from scratch takes an immense amount of time, late nights, and focus. Their patience, encouragement, and unwavering belief in my vision gave me the peace of mind to dive deep into my craft. Alongside them, I have to thank the global 3D community, as a self-taught artist, my growth was fueled by the online creators and educators who freely share their knowledge and workflows.

Second, I want to dedicate this to the early clients and brand partners who trusted us when the studio was just starting out. In the premium CGI space, credibility is everything. Those early partners didn’t just hire us for a service; they took a chance on our vision for high-end visual storytelling. Their trust laid the foundation for our portfolio and gave us the confidence to scale Shuttingstar Studio into what it is today.
