We had the good fortune of connecting with Stranjae’ Ivory, MPH and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stranjae’, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There’s a myriad of factors attributing to my success as well as the success of my brand(s). The most important factor is servant-leadership. Such successes are marked by honoring my purpose and positively impacting the lives of others. One of my life’s aims is to heal and build sustainable communities. In working to achieve this aim, I’m constantly aligning my pursuits with servant-leadership, relationship-building, and empowerment opportunities.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Redefining what it means to believe in your faith and pursue careers in the sciences is what sets God and Science® apart. Also redefining what our most love-filled holiday, Valentine’s Day, looks and feels like no matter one’s status or means is what sets Love Bags apart. Leveraging my personal, educational, and professional experiences influences the unique tones and messages of my brands.

Since cultivating my brands, I’m proud to receive testimonies from God and Science® supporters welcoming their passions for the sciences while also maintaining their faith in God. We can’t afford to allow our next inventor, scientist, and change agent who is making this world a better place to forfeit their dreams. I’m also proud to witness Love Bags recipients’ overwhelming gratitude. From donor to recipient, showing the best parts of our humanity through community engagement continues to validate the purpose of this dynamic act of service.

In 2018, God and Science® was created as the hub for individuals dedicated to their faith and pursuits in the sciences. While pursuing my education in the sciences, I grew accustomed to a narrative that separated God and science. Growing up with an understanding of God and maturing in my personal relationship with Him, I believe my journey through the sciences has been purposeful. Pastor Touré Roberts from ONE church in Los Angeles, CA, once preached on what we understand about science today is evidence of God choosing to be consistent. In my paraphrasing, that continues to speak volumes to me and my Why. Through God and Science, I am blessed to create a space I needed along my journey. Evidently, servicing this need has also inspired and compelled scientists, educators, students, entrepreneurs, faith leaders, and more.

Owning and operating a business is often connected to dreams, passions, and fears. I vividly recall the moment that inspired the brand’s current motto/message. While lecturing to an auditorium of students, one of my former professors referenced scientific discoveries as reasons to dispel beliefs in a “god”. Immediately thereafter, “I believe in God and Science” downloaded into my mind and spirit. A shift in the narrative formed to encourage those pursuing their careers in the sciences and relationships with God. Journeying through various scientific disciplines can be intellectually, emotionally, and socially challenging. Undoubtedly, God and Science® has also encouraged me on days when I feel defeated.

God and Science® is a lifestyle brand that values the integration of God and science in our learning, lifestyle, and love for the world around us. We are a lifestyle brand, offering apparel and homeware products to promote our message. We support our communities through education, newsletters, collaboration, and events.

With a purposeful mission of emphasizing service in underserved populations year-round, I established an annual service-based initiative entitled Love Bags. Love Bags are filled with donated toiletry and clothing items that are distributed to homeless and disabled populations across Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia communities. Since 2017, the annual giving event is hosted on Valentine’s Day or during the Valentine’s Day season. Thankfully, Love Bags giving events have extended throughout Women’s History Month. In 2016, Valentine’s Day presented personal relationship challenges when overcoming a failed relationship. I yielded to self-love and discovered selfless love. Through service, valuable connections and memorable service opportunities have been afforded to me and others serving alongside Love Bags. Personally, I won’t forget the unique stories from women and men expressing how thankful they were to be on someone’s mind in this “giving” way.

In partnership with generous supporters, we’ve distributed over 14,000 toiletries and 200 clothing items across cities and states. I’ve watched how this outreach opportunity has not only blessed communities in need but also donors and volunteers who’ve invested their time and resources into bettering someone else’s situation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are many beauties found in Washington, DC metropolitan areas (best known as the “DMV”). Personally, I love to create experiences. My best friend is visiting the area and the first place I’d take them to is the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD. The National Harbor is the ultimate waterfront getaway along the Potomac River. We’d experience a Sip and Paint session at Muse Paintbar. After enjoying our session and the vibes, we’ll be waiting for our Potomac Water Taxi. Prior to boarding, we’ll visit featured shops such as BrookieGirl Bath and Body Care. Later, we’d board the Potomac Water Taxi to Alexandria, VA. The Potomac Water Taxi will offer a scenic route traveling from Oxon Hill, MD to Alexandria, VA. We’d arrive in Alexandria, VA to a late lunch/early dinner at Blackwall Hitch! The views and food are great. We’d board the Potomac Water Taxi back to the National Harbor. That night, we’d either visit Blues Alley Jazz Supper Club for live jazz entertainment or MGM at the National Harbor for a little dancing. I’d totally be okay with doing both!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Simply, God! God deserves the credit in my story that’s still being written. There hasn’t been a career, business, or service opportunity that God hasn’t first inspired me to create or pursue. God is in the name of one of my brands for a distinct reason; my source of creativity and strategy comes from Him. Additionally, I credit my village of family, friends, and mentors who’ve undoubtedly contributed to my success. Their encouragement, counsel, and promotion of me and my pursuits add to my commitment, authenticity, and vision for excellence. I’m inspired by their humanity, resilience, brilliance, and creativity.
