We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success hands down is the support that I receive from my family and friends. I would not be where I am today without them. Whether it’s my fiancée helping to pack an order, my mom & sisters surprising me with a new mixer or my friends referring new customers. They say it takes a village to raise a child and well…Sweet Dreams is my child and it would not be successful without my village.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What you taste in every bite is no secret ingredient or special sauce. What sets me apart from other bakers is the love and passion that I have for what I do. The decision to turn that love & passion into a business is one of my proudest accomplishments. Getting Sweet Dreams off the ground was not an easy road. I have faced many challenges along the way (including having a cake explode in my oven) but I pushed myself to keep going. As most business owners will attest, success does not come from what you do occasionally but from what you do consistently. I’ve learned that you should never stop being a student, no matter how much of an expert you are. You must continually study your craft and learn new ways to reinvent yourself. I want the world to know that Sweet Dreams is more than just pretty pictures of desserts on Instagram. It’s the dream of a little black girl from South Georgia who never would have imagined that she could one day own her own bakery…and boy is it SWEET!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my goodness! I have a ton of videos saved on TikTok of places & restaurants in Atlanta that I would love to visit. It would probably take a week to get through them all. Some of my “must visit” spots are: daiquiris at Fat Tuesday followed by a stroll through The Battery, catfish tacos from Pretty Little Taco Truck (sooooo good!), Drinks & games at Skyline Park atop Ponce City Market (at sunset, of course!), and what’s Atlanta without brunch?! Let’s go anywhere with bottomless mimosas!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my fiancée, Ameko. As an ambitious woman I’m thankful and blessed to have someone who believes in me & supports my dreams. You go along with all my crazy ideas. You don’t get upset when the kitchen is a mess. You bring me dinner when I’m too tired to cook from baking all day. And I know it’s all because you love me (and the extra cupcakes)! Thank you for everything you do! I love you!
