We had the good fortune of connecting with Princess King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Princess, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The KickBackEdition started off as an idea my college mate (and co founder) Tonie, brought up to me last summer. We were at an outdoor party and I remember her telling me this was the type of thing she wanted to do -throw parties and showcase artists. I thought it was a great idea and told her I believe it was possible. If there was anyway I could help her turn this dream into reality I was down. Being that both of us are recording artists and in the entertainment industry we know how important it is for others to showcase their artistry and network. We also knew that party Goers enjoy places that are fun, safe, and have different things to offer, than just a regular party or going to the club. So We figure we’ll make The KickBackEdition a house party fusion for the artistic community. We turn ordinary spaces Into an adult play house. We give artists a place to be discovered and harness their craft. We give our guests a place to party, play, and chill. It important to us that artists from all media platforms and those who appreciate the art have a safe space to be themselves, be around like minded individuals, and simply have fun.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What set us apart from others is that we put the people’s needs first. If you’re an talented artists we want to help get their music out, not only have a place to perform but if they have new music or a show coming up, we’ll promote them on our social media and even sometime show up to support. At our events, we like working with other small businesses and help grow their clientele so we have them as vendors. And we also understand everybody parties differently, so we like to create different spaces to tailor different needs and make sure everyone is feeling comfortable and enjoying themselves. Im proud that despite starting a new business in the midst covid that it hasn’t stopped us and in someway was even a blessing in disguise. It slowed us down definitely but it gave us more time to really get things in order and pace ourselves, especially for our 2nd annual Holiday Party on December 19. Honestly had it not been for going to college for Entertainment Business and connecting with the right people I’m not sure if The KickBackEdition would exist. This being my first business, it all came to be by meeting people in social and party settings who had similar visions as mine. It’s sometimes nerve wrecking and stressful because everything is new and unknown and the scariest thing to think about is, “what if we fail?” That gag is failure is a part of life and it shouldn’t deter people from pursuing what they believe in. The best part though for me is not going on this new adventure alone. Having a team makes things less scary and overwhelming. We’re all recent college graduates learning that starting a business take time and money. you constantly learn new thing in how to run and operate efficiently through experience. Mistakes will happen and learning from them is part of the process. Something I would want the world to know is follow your dreams no matter what the circumstances, what’s for you will be for you. Life is unpredictable and uncertain st times but that’s the scary & fun part about it. So take a chance on yourself, you’ll never known what’s possible until you do
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Outside from going The KickBackEdition, it’s so hard to say there’s so many fun things to do in Atlanta. Little 5 point is always a fun place to shop, eat, and explore especially if you’re into art and spirituality. Cascade nature preserve is a nice place to get in touch with nature while being the city. Edgewood strip is a super fun spot on the weekends when you’re trying to bar/club hop.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my team, Mr Unpopular and Tonie aka Blue for making this all possible. Thank you to everyone who has helped put our events together. Most importantly thank you to our supporters for coming out to our events and rocking with us throught out 2020. The KickBackEdition wouldnt be what it is now had it not been for everyone who believed in our vision. We are forever grateful. Also thank you ShoutOut Atlanta for this opportunity!!!!
