We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaneece Bogues-Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shaneece, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance has changed significantly since I first began my business in 2016. When I began I was a full time IT Professional, Small Business Owner and Wife and as of April of this year I am also a new mother of a beautiful son so work life balance has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Becoming a new mom during a pandemic has been a beautiful whirlwind and has shown me even though there are deadlines and endless tasks my family comes first. I’ve learned that it is more about prioritization and less about balance because balance makes everything of equal importance which is simply not true. I have turned to prioritizing tasks for my business daily and learning to pivot as my husband and I both work in partnership to meet our newborns needs. I have learned to be creative and flexible with my schedule in order to fulfill and serve my clients as my business grows. To quote a good friend of mine “blessed are the flexible, for they will never be bent out of shape.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My consulting and design agency, Savvy Branding & Consulting, LLC combines brand design, social media marketing as well as encouragement and inspiration to help faith-based entrepreneurs. Specifically, I create graphic design elements, design websites, and show entrepreneurs how to market their products and services via social media. I began my business in 2016 by offering social media management services and through trial and error, I have found my niche. I even re-branded this year focusing on my special offer of “design, encouragement, and inspiration.” Since 2016 I have learned that your business can be successful while having God at the forefront. I got to where I am today by using faith and doing the work and stopping comparison at the root; which causes so many entrepreneurs to doubt themselves. I want the world to know that you can reach financial success by being a faith-based brand working in excellence and building the right relationships.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I reside in Maryland and it is not far from Washington DC I would take my friend to one of the Smithsonian museums since I love history and art and we would enjoy the monuments and grab a bite to eat from a food truck. I would then take them to my favorite restaurant in DC, Vapiano’s where your Italian food is made to order and you can grab fresh herbs from the plant directly off of the plate in front of you. Good food and beautiful scenery is a District staple.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother certainly deserves credit for the love and encouragement she sowed into me while growing up. My mom has always celebrated my accomplishments and pushed me to keep going from grade school to graduate school and beyond. She has always congratulated my siblings and I as we began our careers and started our businesses. I can say that I learned perseverance and relentlessness firsthand from my mom and I thank God for that.
