We had the good fortune of connecting with Landis Pearce and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Landis, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the simplest answer is here is customer service. I mean real customer service. Sculpting sound and an environment per client on a day to day basis. So much talent walks through my door and they all deserve the same respect as my signed famous clients. Nobody’s music is more valuable than the next. The amount of bad business that I see day to day in this industry is astounding. Shady business practices and just downright being rude to clients is rampant. I have so many people walk through my door that have had an atrocious experience at another studio. I just aim to please my clientele to the best of my ability.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve had a few hurdles in my career for sure. Had a job at a top notch studio that suddenly closed out of nowhere. Working a market that was over saturated and under performed in. Bottom line for me is that working hard and being a good business is so important. I’ve always had great support from friends and family. Having that support system has been stellar to say the least. This is a brutal industry and on my side of the glass, there is a lot less glory. However, it’s my favorite part of the industry. My biggest challenge is finding the balanced budge to pay the people I need and still put food on my table. Charlottes market is very underpaid from a studio perspective despite having an excellent pool of artists.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Best parts of Charlotte, We have great food here in Charlotte! Some of my favorite spots are Bistro La Bon, Spice Asian Kitchen, Silver Lake Ramen, 131 Main, Bardo, Barcelona Wine Bar, Hawkers, Que Onda etc. Excellent food. We take coffee very seriously at my studio. Espresso machine is always on (We’ve had a few over the years but currently with an E61 setup and the new Option O p64 Grinder) but if I were to go out and get coffee, it has to be from our friends over at Stable Hand. We have their sister company (HEX coffee roasters) beans on bar at my studio all of the time. My idea of a great weekend is excellent food and excellent company.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt this has to be Chris ” Coach Brodie” West. An astoundingly good engineer, good businessman and a pretty stellar golfer as well. One of the hardest working individuals I’ve ever seen and continues to maintain a top level of quality constantly.
