We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaiya Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaiya, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
There’s many, but persistence is at the top of the list. As a solopreneur, my business only works as much as I do. I control all the motions. A quote that Marketing by Monrae says a lot is, “You’re’ the only one who works there. If you don’t show up, who else gone do it?” This is extremely true. Therefore, I have to be persistent and continuously show up and get the job done. I can’t just give up when things get hard or are challenging, I have to be persistent, try again, and strategize to figure out solutions.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
March 13th recently marked my 1 year in business. It definitely wasn’t easy, but my business and brand isn’t something I started expecting it to be “easy.” I came in knowing that success isn’t overnight, I’d have to work hard, be patient, be willing to fail and keep learning, and trust my own process. So, I think acknowledging that early helps to overcome the hard times and keep going. Along with knowing that I can’t abandon a community I’ve created that supports, trusts, and values my business and brand.

I’m definitely proud, and grateful, to have accomplished one year in business. I think I was able to get this far by continuously serving my customers and ID’d community. One thing me and my business are complimented on the most is customer service. It’s not about just selling products for us. It’s about providing our customers with excellent service and experience, along with products that make them feel great about themselves, that boost their confidence. By valuing and forming relationships with our customers, they value us in return.

What I’d like the world to know about ID’d by Distinct is that yes, we sell accessories and fashion jewelry, and we specialize in sunglasses. But most importantly, we’re a brand that stands for authenticity, individuality, and inclusivity. We always want to remind our audience that it’s better to be you, and be confident in exactly who you are. To know, love, and embrace yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I’m not working (which is almost never), I’m actually a pretty chill person! I enjoy relaxing and having quality time with the few people close to me. So I’ve fallen back from “the scene.” However, if I did have to choose a place for a day/night out, some places I definitely recommend are Escobar’s, Area4, and CRU!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom. She’s a huge help! She does all of my popup shops with me. I’m also a full-time student in college, a senior this year. So, because my inventory was just too much to bring with me to school, I left my mom over shipping and local pickups this semester while I’m away. She took on a tremendous role and has been amazing. She’s also been super supportive from the beginning.
