We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I’m an Atlanta based author, a newly certified Life Coach and I’m currently majoring in Psychology; to obtain a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Mental Health. My passion has always been to advocate, inspire, counsel, support and encourage others. I desire to accomplish the plans and purpose God has for my life. My long term goal is to make a career change and transition into the Psychology field as a counselor and to continue my journey as a writer. Writing is my creative outlet and I’m currently writing a book about my story as a survivor of domestic abuse. I am driven as an advocate to give hope to many who suffer silently by sharing my story, struggles and how I fought to gain my life back. I want to touch the hearts of many and be a light of hope, especially for those who feel there isn’t any hope.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from most is my heart. I truly care about people especially those who are broken, suffering, abused, outcasted, judged, misunderstood and battling with mental illnesses. I myself have experienced a lot of trauma during my childhood and throughout early adulthood. It was meant for me to go through all the abuse, hurt, pain, betrayals and losses before I could fulfill God’s purpose for my life according to HIS timing! In my upcoming book I will open up and share my story. My goal is to have my book published in the fall of this year. Passion, peace and love is my motivation. I want to live out my years serving my purpose and doing what I LOVE!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite spots to have brunch is “Flying Biscuits,” they have the best creamy grits and of course I love their mimosas! I’m an introvert so I don’t fancy crowds or loud places. I live in North Georgia (far from the surrounding mountains) so I love a weekend stay-cation trip in the mountains; horse back-riding, wineries and exploring nature. My bestie will be here visiting for my birthday in April (Taurus Queen) and we’re planning a beach trip to Florida. We are well overdue for some tanning, the beautiful view of the ocean and yummy cocktails!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God is the head and foundation of my life. For I am indeed truly blessed and without God I would not be where I am today! My grandmother raised me and she was gifted with such profound wisdom and always spoke of her love for God. One of many things I admired and loved about her, was that she always treated people with kindness, love and respect. She was a strong, honest woman with a genuine good heart. Everything she taught me, the seeds she planted spiritually is what has shaped me into the beautiful spirit I am today. My grandmother passed away in September of 2016 and I miss her dearly yet I will forever carry the memories of her within my heart.
