We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeanne Schultz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeanne, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
One of the most difficult decisions my husband and I ever had to make was to decide that our son needed treatment for substance use disorder. We had to acknowledge that what we were doing or not doing was not helping him and that we were out of ideas. It was time to seek professional help for him and for our family. This thought process and the community we became involved with enabled us to learn more about addiction itself and how it affects family members. Ultimately the decision changed our lives for the better and today I am proud to be in recovery myself, along with our son. Our family is also a lot more authentic and needless to say – healthier and happier.
Along my journey, I also became a Certified Peer Support Specialist and the owner and founder of 12 Acre Farm Services. 12 Acre Farms is dedicated to bringing the healing properties of nature to others through a variety of soothing and often surprising experiential activities.
All of the programs I’m involved in are designed to help others break through harmful patterns of isolation and hopelessness.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets The Recovery Coach apart from others is that our staff has lived experience in the situations our clients are facing. That means we understand the challenges and victories wholeheartedly. Our collective experience also offers hope that lasting change is possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d like them to see the variety of activities Atlanta has to offer. We’d spend time downtown at the the Zoo, the Aquarium, Oakland Cemetery, Piedmont Park, the Botanical Gardens and the High Museum of Art. We could also take in a Braves or Gwinnett Braves game. I’d spend time in some of the small historical areas like Roswell or Woodstock. I’d take them for a kayak trip down the Chattahoochee and explore the pathway to the Hike Inn near Amacolola Falls and Dahlonega. We’d also search out live music and eat plenty of barbeque cooked by local experts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
