We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaszy Shavers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaszy, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Fall of 2018 I nearly gave up. I felt completely defeated  from a crippling   breakup and discouraged that I wasn’t really respected for my artistry. So I stretched out on my bed and within a few hours made “Sucker”, my first fully written, produced and engineered single that was released on all platforms. And I instantly felt relief. It was something about the lyrics and detaching from everything but my need to create and express myself that felt like therapy through the entire process. Suddenly, I started seeing my music played at events, on overseas internet radio stations, reposted repeatedly, and binged listened to by all kinds of people with little to no marketing or huge fam base. My following started growing and my previous work on SoundCloud like, “Kingdom” went bizerk. That’s when I realized I was the factor. I could either fuel my career with my experiences or allow them to drag me in a hole. I could wait on the validation or keep moving. And I haven’t looked back.

Everyday is a choice. With so many new artists born daily, fluctuations in the industry and everything happening in the world it’s so easy to get distracted or off course. What is your purpose, your vision, your why? Where can you NOT stand to be in 1 year? 5 years? 10? Remind  yourself, write it down, tell a friend. Limit your negative self talk. Practice even without gigs. Study everything from the business to your idols’ creative processes. Get a mentor. And watch how things change. You have one life to live and leave your imprint. Be clear about your intentions and unapologetically take up space.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a self-taught singer, songwriter, producer and recording engineer. With over one decade of experience, I pride myself in being a one-stop-shop for other artists and my brand, Jaszy Shavers LLC. Every single I’ve released since 2018 is original from the lyrics, production, performance and arrangements. However, I’m thrilled to finally be collaborating with my favorite artists, engineers and producers in the industry.

My music is all about experiences. Real, uninhibited experiences. I’m on a mission to bring back that old school R&B/Soul and create timeless music that will be played generations from now.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Little Five Points is one of the most inspirational place I’ve visited in Atlanta. There are so many different kinds of people there, art, energies and intimate businesses. I often visit anytime I feel drained or uninspired. It’s literally always love.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Much of my success is due to the prayers, encouragement and support of those who love me. However, I really noticed myself blossoming after working with Anthony Whiting – Photographer, Videographer and founder of Envision Artistry. Together we’ve started to growing and evolving my brand while pushing creative limits. His concepts are edgy, imaginative and authentic. His energy unmatched. Truly inspirational.
