We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamall Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamall, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is tenacity and perseverance. I’ve experienced many ups and downs in life and in business and being able to regain focus and keep moving forward has been essential.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In the apparel business we have a plethora of competition and that competition is tough. We face challenges everyday but that challenge is a driving factor in what we do. I started in lawn care with very little money, in a new city, and without many contacts. After find success in selling a service I wonder if I could have the same type of success in merchandising and that’s when we started The Original Colors Tees. Merchandise/apparel have been a lot more difficult to me but that’s what keeps us going. Learning new things and figuring out way to get our product out to people keeps us on our toes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spot in the city is downtown! The water falls at Falls park and a number of great restaurants. Some of my favorites are Smoke on the Water, Jamaican mi irie, Trios and Ink & ivy. A weekend hike at Paris mountain or a lazy day at lake Jocassee is always is always relaxing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the book Shoe Dog by Phill Knight. The struggles he went through building Nike were tremendous and the tenacity he showed was inspirational. I always go back to this book when I find myself in a tough spot.
