We had the good fortune of connecting with Evan Acres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evan, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
“Do what you love.”
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business exists to get people back around the dinner table. In our name, the “Acres” represents the family that owns the business, while the “Oak” represents the dinner table, together our name stands for the “Family Table.” It is our hope that our products will be found on dinner tables across middle Georgia. We believe that family is not only those whom you share the same blood with but those whom you are willing to provide an open seat at your table. This business is seeking to be the avenue in which relationships begin and continue on.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
No question, we would dive into the city of Macon’s rich history of music, like that of the legendary Allman Brothers and Little Richard. We would have endless options of great food and drinks. For the best burgers we would check out the Rookery, Ocmulgee Brewpub, and Barefoot Tavern. For the best local drink spots we would take in Fall Line Brewing Co., Macon Beer Co., The Society Garden, Cashman’s, and maybe even turn it up a notch by checking out the Hummingbird or the Crazy Bull. For more of a relaxed back day we would enjoy a walk through the Indian Mounds, flout down the Ocmulgee river, or enjoy the sun through the beautiful trees at Amerson Park. Our food would be supplied by Parrish on Cherry street, Natalie’s, and Dove Tail, Before our friend gets back on the road, H&H is a must stop for breakfast. His/her car would be loaded down with Acres and Oak Kitchen products for the road. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife, Erika Acres. As typical and as cliche as this answer may be, there is no one who is more deserving. God’s grace was made clear in my life through the avenue of this amazing human being. She is a mother to our five children and can be directly associated with the success, growth, and future of this business. Without her I would be unworthy even be considered for this article. In addition, I was raised by a single mother who taught me how to weather storms of life, how to stand firm in my beliefs, how to take pride in what I do, and how to never let anyone else outwork me. As the prior owner of this business, we positioned for future success because of Tonya Sadler’s efforts.
