We had the good fortune of connecting with Dezirae Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dezirae, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was I love creating and I hate working for other people, so I had to find a way to make a both of them work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It is definitely not easy being a creative. Art is subjective, so sometimes you never really know the reactions you will get. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is just to keep going and never stop. There are ups and downs in every profession so sometimes you have to stay focused on the bigger picture.

For my brand, DO Photography, I like to focus on bringing the clients vision to life while adding some of my own vision as well. There’s no better feeling than knowing you made your client happy. Sometimes they even leave the session with more confidence than they started with, and that’s always a big win for me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank all the people that constantly encourage me and keep me motivated. It’s not easy being a creative sometimes, especially full time.
