We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise McCulloch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denise, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I felt compelled to start my own business when I saw a lack of options when it came to natural, organic, straightforward self-care focused bathing products. Bathing is a form of self-care and relaxation for so many of us. We all have unique rituals surrounding self-care and I wanted to create a product that supported those rituals and elevated the bathing experience. I was inspired by the concept of soaking your whole body in something that was not only relaxing, but had additional health benefits, like drinking a cup of herbal tea would have.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Wildflower Rituals grew out of my desire for natural and organic bath tea soaks that were free from artificial colors and fragrances. The self-care industry is a huge space with a million products to choose from but so many of the bath soaks I was finding had too many artificial ingredients and I wondered how soaking my body in that could actually be beneficial. I wanted to make bath soaks that were going to smell amazing, be relaxing, and had additional health benefits.

Starting my business has not been without its challenges. The self-care market is expansive, and people have so many options to choose from, but what I stand behind is that my bath soaks are formulated with intention and love, and made from only natural and organic ingredients.

So far in this journey of building my business I’ve learned that staying true to what you believe in and why you started in the first place is crucial. There are going to be so many times when you doubt what you are doing and you wonder if others will embrace what you are putting out there and offering. If you believe in yourself and what you are trying to accomplish then you’ll find success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Luckily, ATL has so many amazing places to choose from for eating, drinking and playing! I’d start by taking my bestie to my favorite local neighborhood coffee place- Con Leche in Reynoldstown. We’d grab coffees and pastries and then hop on the Beltline for a morning walk. We’d grab lunch at Ponce City Market so that we could do some shopping and check out one of my favorite places to shop for myself and to pick up gifts- Citizen Supply. After a day of walking and shopping we’d be ready for cocktails and an excellent meal so we’d be dining at the Optimist. There is seriously no shortage of things to do and new places to explore and discover in Atlanta.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When starting my own business and taking that leap of faith into the unknown, the support of my family and friends was huge. I am still learning and growing and they are still supporting and encouraging me! Along with family and friends, I have experienced such encouragement from the local network of other female owned small business owners in the Atlanta area. Having a network to reach out to with questions and to be able to chat with other small business owners who can understand the challenges you face, and celebrate the wins, however small, is so important and motivating for me to continue working on and growing my business.
