We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Acker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cierra, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
We are changing who people believe a runner can be.

Every time a woman who never thought she could run completes her first mile, first 5K, or first race, we challenge outdated ideas about fitness, body size, pace, age, and ability.

We create visibility for women who have historically been left out of wellness spaces and prove that movement is not reserved for a certain body type, pace, or background

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Because I Can Runners was founded on a simple belief: every woman deserves to feel like she belongs in the wellness and running space, regardless of her pace, size, background, or experience level.

At our core, we help women build the confidence to do hard things. Running is simply the vehicle. Through movement, community, and support, women discover they are capable of more than they imagined. What starts with one mile often becomes the confidence to take on challenges in every area of life.

Our mission is to create spaces where women feel seen, supported, and empowered to believe that they can.

Was it easy? Not at all. Ironically, when I started Because I Can Runners, I wasn’t confident that people would support the vision. I had doubts, fears, and plenty of moments where I questioned whether I was capable of building something meaningful.

What I’ve learned is that confidence isn’t something you have before you start. Confidence is a practice. The more I put myself out there, took risks, and continued showing up, the more I grew as a founder, leader, and person.

If there’s one thing I want the world to know about my brand and story, it’s that women are far more powerful than they realize. We have the ability to change our lives, challenge our limits, and redefine what we believe is possible. Through Because I Can Runners, I hope women learn that they hold more power over their minds, bodies, and futures than they’ve been led to believe.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Atlanta, we’d start with a morning walk on the Beltline or a hike at Stone Mountain to experience some of the city’s best outdoor spaces. Afterward, we’d grab food at The Juicy Crab and explore some of Atlanta’s vibrant neighborhoods, local businesses, and community events. If the timing worked out, I’d bring them to a Because I Can Runners event so they could experience the incredible sense of connection and community that makes Atlanta special. Atlanta’s culture, energy, and people are what make it one of my favorite places to call home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to the people who believed in me before I fully believed in myself.

First, my friends who encouraged me to pursue my vision and kept reminding me of what was possible during moments of doubt. Their support helped me keep going when things felt uncertain.

My mom deserves so much credit as well. She has supported me in countless ways throughout this journey and has always been one of my biggest champions.

I’d also like to recognize Shannon at Adidas. She showed me what leadership in the running space can look like through her commitment to community, creating opportunities for others, and leading with purpose.

And of course, the women of Because I Can Runners. They are the reason this community continues to grow and thrive. Their courage, trust, and willingness to show up inspire me every day.
