Meet Chiana Tracy | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chiana Tracy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chiana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been drawn to the arts from the time I was a small child. In my youth, I spent much of my free time drawing. Art quickly became a passion of mine. By the time I was in my teens, I knew that I wanted to be an artist.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a painter who creates decor as well as functional works of art. I like to create pieces that I consider to be ‘feel good art’. I want my creations to bring happiness, which is why I often paint with vibrant colors/ happy colors. I also like variety, so I create pieces that could appeal to almost anyone. In my Etsy shop you can find painted jewelry, handbags, & home decor items. Currently, my favorite things to make are the painted vases.

I have always created different things simply for the joy of it. Even though it was a dream of mine, I never thought that I could turn my hobby into a business. Then one day I decided to start wearing my handmade jewelry wherever I went. As a result, I not only received compliments on my jewelry, I also received requests to make custom jewelry! From there, I began selling my jewelry at home based jewelry parties & craft fairs. As time went on, I eventually began selling my creations online.

In the beginning, growing my business seemed easy! Then I became a mom & I learned how challenging it can be to balance work & being a parent. What I have learned from this experience is that it’s ok to not be Superwoman. You don’t have to take on everything. Be willing to ask for help & take breaks when you need it. Self care is so important & I think that once you become a parent, you tend to forget that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so much to do in this area! I’d take them to the beach, we’d go on hikes, & take a drive into the city!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First & foremost, I have to shoutout my husband. He has been such a huge supporter of my art career. In many ways, he has been my business assistant. I also have friends & family members who have been very supportive. They all help me to keep going when the business side of being an artist gets challenging.
