We had the good fortune of connecting with Malaezia Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malaezia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up I’ve always been into anything beauty. Hair, makeup.nails, fashion you name it I loved it . After graduating high school at 16 years old I went to cosmetology school where I not only expanded my knowledge on beauty but I learned tons of business skills. Mid semester I would start to notice more girls in school and outside of school wearing eyelashes extensions. & I myself loved the aesthetic of lashes that I figured hey Ima get the best of the best lashes to provide for the girls. At their convenience being that I would be in school selling them. As I got more mature and my lash business continued to flourish I started to learn more about business and about different industries of interest.

I always was fond of luxury, of designer items. Specifically handbags and shoes, but I couldn’t afford to buy all the ones I loved. So I decided instead of breaking the bank trying to buy the latest, I rather break the bank to become the latest.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my continuous hunger to gain but more so to learn. I’m most excited and proud about my mindset. In the beginning of starting a business , there’s so many things that races through your mind like is it a good enough idea? Would people like It? Would it make any money? ,etc and sometimes that can be daunting causing the loss of motivation. I went through those phases in my beginning stages and so many times I thought what happen if I just quit. I quickly realized nothing would happen. If I quit, I just quit. if I keep going there’s no telling what it could be. I needed to visualize my dream outside of the present moment. I needed to set it in stone what im going to do, how im going to do , and what I needed to do to get it done leaving no option for failure.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First place would probably be a brunch @Moms bar & kitchen or Mean fiddler in the city . Smoking Pie in Queens.

Paint n Pour , St*ned Pizza , Definitely East River Park,

Around the neighborhood with friends . BBQS .

Selfie Musuem , Maestros Steakhouse.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a huge shoutout to Tiffiney Davis @ Red Hook Art Project . She has truly set a foundation for determination. Growing up watching her unapologetically show up for herself and those around her is truly a blessing. Being in her presence you wouldn’t lack of anything. Especially as a small business owner, she helped me see the importance of networking , of having resources for EVERYTHING. Even if it’s something you think you may not need.
She has shown and proved that where you come from doesn’t determine who you or where you are going .
All you have to do is believe in what your doing.
