We had the good fortune of connecting with Breauna Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Breauna, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Well, I started my business in the middle of a pandemic. I had always thought about starting a business, but never took the time to actually do it. So, not to sound grateful for Covid-19, but it was definitely a blessing in disguise. Without this extra time on my hands, I probably would’ve kept procrastinating. I learned to always take time to do things that you want to do. Time is valuable and it should be used wisely. Starting this business has also helped me to be more patient, something that I’ve been praying hard about!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
HER Collection is a business that sells products to enhance the beauty that women already possess. Our mission is bringing women to the forefront to celebrate and enhance HER, everything we do is all about HER. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come. I started selling lashes in a clear case with no logo, and here I am today with a whole collection of lashes, cosmetics and accessories. Getting here took much prayer, time and patience. I had to learn the ins and outs of running a business, and also learn how to balance my 9-5 and a business once I returned back to work everyday from working from home. Along the way, I’ve learned to celebrate the small wins and plan and prioritize in a way that my small wins turn into big wins. My hope is that my business will show little black girls that anything is possible and that we as women can do anything that we put our minds to. For so long, women have been in the background. Slowly but surely, that is changing and we are to be celebrated as we deserve.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because I have a small business, I’ve learned to appreciate other small businesses and gems. We’d definitely spend some time at a locally owned spa, have brunch and other meals at mom and pop type restaurants and shop locally. I’m a thrifter, so I’d definitely want to hit up a few thrift shops. I’d also like to spend some time at home making food and drinking wine with lots of laughs!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Major shoutout to my village! Since day one, they’ve been behind me every step of the way. Whether it’s purchasing from me, sharing my posts on social media, or just words of encouragement, the support is unmatched! Additionally, my twin brother is always working behind the scenes. He’s a marketing guru and his expertise is a huge asset to the look and design of my social media. I could never thank him enough!
