We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from from the home of crawfish boils, Jazz music, King Cake, and world-famous Café Dumont: New Orleans, Louisiana! If there is anything we love more than Mardi Gras, it’s good food and good times. I love to cook, and I love to eat; it’s in my blood, and in my heart. But the secret ingredient that’s made my life so flavorful is my village. After traveling abroad, working for local and federal government, and now spending time at the nation’s capital, I became encouraged to pursue my desire to address the inequalities in our country – including those facing young people. Previously, I served in United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, where I advised members of Congress and worked on policies related to healthcare, education, judiciary, civil rights, and more. Additionally, I served as Director of Health Policy and Legislative Strategy for the Joint Congressional Staff Task Force on Racial Justice and Reform, where I developed comprehensive policy proposals that communicated the thoughts and values of the Black Americans, as well as articulated legislative efforts to bring equitable solutions to our communities. This, ultimately, led me to want to share take an active role in helping to prepare the next generations of leaders for success.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Without giving away all the secrets I have learned since moving to Washington, DC, I would encourage anyone visiting the city to support, shop, eat, drink, and patronize local Black businesses. Once you have had your fill of shopping and food, I would also suggest exploring some of the monuments and many museums in the city. There is a rich heritage and history here that can easily become overlooked, so it up to us to ensure that those voices are constantly elevated and valued.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is dedicated to my tribe of incredible family, friends, and long time supporters; my life partner, Jazmine N. Bonner; and dearest mother, Blythe D. Gross.
