Meet Sonia Thomas: Health and Wellness Nutrition Coach | Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice | Oncology Clinical Pharmacist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonia Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonia, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Health and wellness nutrition coaching is an emerging field. I think most people don’t realize that you really need to focus heavily on health, wellness and nutrition in order to be healthy and prevent disease states. It’s also a compliment to medication treatment for current disease states. The medical world is set in a way that physicians and providers simply don’t have time to spend that much time with each patient that is required for ‘functional’ and ‘integrative’ medicine. Health and wellness nutrition coaching is vital for the health of a patient.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My health and wellness nutrition coaching business is called Dose of Sonia (www.doseofsonia.com). I am also a pharmacist so am able to understand disease states and medications that anyone is on which sets me apart. Starting a business is not easy- the marketing and social media aspect is definitely the hardest in my eyes. However, there are many companies you can sign up for that will assist you with aspects of your business that may take away from your goal which allows you to focus on the fun parts! I’ve definitely learned how to manage my time and energy so that I don’t feel like I am taking away from my main goal of coaching others and developing programs. This video does a great job of telling my story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d9cLVJpBQ4&feature=emb_title, but I want everyone to know that I’ve been there from being overweight, binge eating, having the biggest sweet tooth to feeling tired, poor sleep and feeling crappy overall and I am so passionate about helping you feel better!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thursday Evening: Avalon in Alpharetta, GA- Antico’s for dinner! Walking around there after dinner! Friday: GA aquarium Coca-cola Zoo Saturday: Brunch at West Egg Cafe in West Midtown Ponce City Market for coffee Walking the beltline to Krog Street Market Drinks at The St Regis Bar in Buckhead Sunday: Stone Mountain hiking Shops at Buckhead- brunch at Southern Gentlemen Piedmont Park walking and throwing around a frisbee
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am extremely thankful to have a supportive family- my hubby, mom and sister have really always looked up to me when it comes to health and nutrition and unknowingly encouraged me to share my knowledge with the world. I am also grateful for the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) where I received my training for opening my eyes up to a whole new world to help others in terms of health, wellness and nutrition. Lastly, I am grateful to my cancer patients who ultimately were the reason I wanted to explore this world more in depth.
