What role has risk taking played in your life or career?

In our experience, most folks, including ourselves don’t have enough of an understanding of risk and the role it plays in our lives and careers and so we have made a concerted effort as a team to have conversations about risk with our interviewees. We’ve shared some highlights below.

Risk. My relationship with it has been ever present. As for anyone, we all confront risks daily. I face small risks all the time—putting myself out there, reaching out to someone new, doing an interview with a local magazine—but the bigger ones have shaped me most. I believe every creator has to have a high risk tolerance. Anything can and might go wrong but from another perspective they can always be better than anything you can think of. I have taken many risks in my career. By starting a business, writing a book, making music, acting and now venturing into the modeling industry. I used to be so worried about what others might say or how long would take. But to be honest, who cares? Also the time will pass regardless and i would have rather tried than sat on the couch. Being a writer is all about taking risks. The moment you decide to put pen to paper, you are risking vulnerability with your thoughts, words, and ideas. The risk increases exponentially once a writer decides to share their work with readers. If a writer seeks to publish their work, there is extreme risk to succeed in the literary world. Whether it’s querying agents, submitting to publishers, or ultimately receiving reviews from readers, one must risk their emotions to the scrutiny of strangers.
