We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been passionate about traveling. Whether it was small weekend trips with my cousin and her family growing up or my very first time in New York during my internship with Sports Illustrated or my more recent travels exploring Iceland, Switzerland and Paris, I’ve always been super excited about each and every trip. For me, going on vacation means exploring a new world and discovering little gems that you never knew existed. Each time I’m going on a trip, I get more and more excited about the endless possibilities of uncharted territory and new memories that I’ll make for a lifetime. I founded GeauxVacay because a lot of people think travel isn’t affordable or they feel like exploring unknown destinations are out of their reach. I wanted to create an opportunity for people who aren’t well traveled and don’t know where to start and guide them through the process of concepting, booking and taking a vacation – big or small! I know many people that haven’t even left the city they grew up in and here I am traveling the world. I want everyone to be able to experience the joy of travel and GeauxVacay was built to inspire and motivate. The world is ours for the taking!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is GeauxVacay. We’re a Travel Consulting Agency that has the strategic ability to help you plan your next dream vacation, giving you the blueprint to book on your own, but also having the executional ability for a full-service option that allows us to not only plan the vacation but book everything on your behalf … leaving no work on your end! I’m most excited about the GeauxVacay Travel Planner that I’ve created and will be launching in August 2020. The GeauxVacay travel planner will be the traveling accessory you never knew you needed. Keep track of all flight & accommodation information, plan your outfits out for every day, write down all of your excursions details, take our selfie challenge and much more! The GeauxVacay Travel Planner will be the key to your 2021 travels. The road to victory hadn’t been hard for GeauxVacay until Covid19 and we just like the rest of the world were required to pivot, pause and rethink our entire strategy. With travelers not booking trips as normal and the uncertainty of future and if they ever will, we’ll still in a scary position. GeauxVacay however wants travelers to know that they can still travel and still remain safe while doing it, which is why each planner will also come with a travel mask and hand sanitizer. The biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is don’t get complacent. Always strive to push yourself more and step out of your comfort zone. Always think about what’s the next step in your journey. I want the world to know that traveling isn’t just a business for me, it’s life. I want them to know that the world is ours and we can explore and discover new places that we never even knew existed!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Monday: Red Martini is the spot to be on Monday night. Great music & drinks! Tuesday: Tuesday we’re swinging through Boogalou. Boogalou is one of the trendiest lounges in Atlanta where the bar stools are made of swings Wednesday: On Wednesday, we’ll be passing by Suite lounge for Crab Legs & Karaoke Thursday: BQE is the spot to be on Thursday nights for Karaoke Friday: On Friday, we’re going to go to Krab Queenz or King Crab for some good ole seafood after work. Following that, we’ll probably end up at CRU lounge for hookah, drinks & vibes that night. Saturday: Because Atlanta is all about the brunches, we’re hitting Roc South because they have some of the BEST food in the city! Following a brief hiatus after brunch, the party is on at Suite Lounge for their R&B Dinner Party Sunday: Sunday, we would definitely hit up brunch at BQE, powered by DJ Franchize. Following brunch, we’d go to Tiki Tango for the Sunday day party to end the weekend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I never knew there was a special group of “explorers” just like me out there in this world until I joined the Black Travel Movement Facebook group. That group really showed me that there are African American men and women going out there and leaving their mark all over this world! That group inspired me to want to help those who don’t know where to get the best deals or don’t know where are the best places for new travelers to go. Without Black Travel Movement, I probably wouldn’t have started GeauxVacay.
