We had the good fortune of connecting with Vicki Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vicki, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I never had the intention of starting my own business. Frankly, I always looked at myself as a “corporate woman.” In my mind, I never wanted to have to “hunt for work” or be responsible for an employees’ family income. However, I worked myself out of a job in the technology world, and the job market for my level of expertise didn’t exist. I had to do something. I started by saying I would take on one short-term consulting engagement until things got back to normal. Well, the so-called short-term agreement lasted 2 years. Before the end of the project, I received a call for another engagement. I felt blessed to have the opportunity to make a great living without being in the corporate world’s daily grind. That short-term engagement lasted another 2 years. During this time, I became a caregiver and needed flexibility. I eventually took on another engagement that was a year long. At that point, my caregiving responsibilities for my mother were much greater. By having my own business, I created an environment to give me the flexibility that I needed. This was when I took advantage of short-term opportunities. As my caregiving responsibilities picked up with my father, I just kept going with smaller engagements. I also used this time to re-launch and recreate my business with new service offerings and a brand refresh. This was a springboard into my scale upward again. So, through it all, I now understand that the plan was always in place to give me the time for my new priorities while still making it happen.

I am most proud of the positive outcomes of positive change outcomes as they travel the change journey. My journey as an entrepreneur has been filled with ups and downs, just like any business. But the reward of seeing positive changes for my clients has been gratifying. There is a lot to consider when you work for yourself, as there does exist the good, bad, and the ugly. At the time in my life, it has proven to have been the optimal solution for my career, as I had no idea all the personal changes that would be amongst my journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Before the pandemic, I loved taking my guests to sporting events. My husband and I have been Atlanta Hawks season tickets holders for years now. We also enjoy going to soccer, baseballr and football games. I also love grabbing a bite to eat at Seasons 52.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My late mother, Dr. Irene M. Wright, definitely deserves ample credit for my success. She was my biggest cheerleader and greatest inspiration. The lessons that she taught me still echo in my mind daily.
