We had the good fortune of connecting with Ursula Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ursula, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
My personality overall is to be resilient and resourceful, I learned that from my parents. I grew up pretty middle class where money was not discussed in detail but I could see that my parents always found a way to make ends meet and keep me and my sister fed, sheltered and clothed as well as family vacations, fun birthday parties and private school. They showed me early on not to give up. I was too young during those years to realize how significant that would be through out my life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My decision to launch my business as a massage therapist didn’t come out of a romantic “Aha” moment, it was simply a survival response. After a very unexpected lay off from my corporate job, I had to make a decision as to what to do next. After a minute of searching my soul, I decided I wanted to leave the corporate field I was in and pursue something that helped people, I mean really helped people. That thought of helping people “feel better” has evolved into my massage practice as to mean help women feel better about themselves.

Since I never worked for myself before, I no doubt made every mistake in the book. My goal was to help people but I also needed money to live. It took some time to see those 2 things come together in a way that was profitable but still left me feeling like my work was an authentic expression of myself. I remember the days when I didn’t have gas money to get to the event to do massage and I was too embarrassed to ask for help. It was important for me to overcome my money issues so that I could really do the work I was called to do…that took alot of soul searching that forced me to be honest with myself and my view of money.

I was embarrassed or prideful or whatever you want to call it. It made me think about all the other people, especially women, who felt the same way. My business is all about selfcare and individual wellness. What sets me apart from some other massage practices is that I look at my clients’ lives off the table not just when they come to me for massage or yoga. I take a genuine interest in their lives, yes I have boundaries, but I see my clients as whole people who spend more time at work, with family and friends and deal with life stresses everyday. Because of this I can customize our sessions with meditation, sound therapy, yoga stretch or just a short nap after a session with me. This is one of the main reasons why I had to work on my own and not for someone else in a spa or clinic because I can set my own pace and schedule,

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well that’s easy! Our spa, Relaxing Vibrations Spa is minutes from the main entrance to Stone Mountain Park. We are right near the village where there are so many new restaurants and businesses popping up over the past few years. I would start with a full day at Stone Mountain Park, come to us for massages after a day of walking the beautiful trails and walking up stone mountain, Afterwards go onto Main Street where there is a new wine bar called The Vibrary and finish off with dinner at one of the great restaurants right across the street. Get yourself some rest because the next day is shopping at the crystal shop right in our plaza called Rock Steady maybe pick up some edibles at The Rose & Hemp and end the day at Gilly Brew Bar.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have always been influential in my life, especially my dad. I inherited his entrepreneural, side hustle spirit. Also, all of the beautiful women owned businesses that I have followed, modeled and admired for years. There are just too many to list
