We had the good fortune of connecting with Troy Lyricz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Troy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
They call it “risk taking” I say “faith jumping” I’ve learned that the most uncomfortable things are the things I should attack. Doing it when you are scared. I just refused to live my life wondering if I could have did this or became that.. I rather know for sure & the only way to know for sure is to take the necessary risks

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a full creative from picking out my beat selection, to writing the lyrics, to delivering, to directing my videos. I just enjoy creating things from the ground up. I Recently hosted a 5k run in honor of my best friend that was recently murdered, Ricardo Knox. There were many reasons why I wanted to have this event. One, because he incorporated running in his workouts. Two, because he always wanted to do a 5K run but never got a chance. Three, as he was running from the situation, he was shot in his back. My dawg was a Giant. He was highly valued in the community and was a role model to the students at his school where he taught, Slater Elementary. He was one of those teachers that made teaching look cool. I recently released a song called “Giant” as a tribute to who he was. As I was writing the record, I felt him all over me in spirit. One of his hidden talents were freestyles over instrumentals. I mean bro could go for an hour straight! See, I am mainly known for singing but this record led me in a different direction. He used to always tell me that I need to expand my artistry because he knew that I could.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to send this shout out my to my homies, my brothers, my family. Even though we’re not family by blood, we was put in each others lives for a reason ever since we met in middle school . We have always been a strong Group of friends and that’s why a lot of people cherish our relationship.. we are men that accept our flaws but still try to walk a straight line. Living our full potential and not being distracted by society. We all was caught off guard with this tragic situation where our brother was murdered. I want to shout out to them because we are learning to turn pain into purpose. Shout out Malcolm, Kavian, Mike, Chauncey, Tyrell, Garrison, Josh, Reese, K.B and all of our extended homies that came along.. We love you bro, your name will forever live on.
