Meet Tim Bennett: Mental Health Advocate & Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tim, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks for any part of your life is the hardest thing to do. It’s taking a jump when nobody is there to catch you when you fall.
In my life it was no different; Self Love University started with me not knowing where it was going but knowing there is a need for someone to talk about issues millennials face.
My biggest obstacle was making that jump and being scared that my friends/family wouldn’t back me up. That wasn’t the case, I saw my biggest following once I started putting my face with the brand. It was a bigger joy when I found out my students at my high school found out about my brand. I get questions every day on how can they uplift their self-confidence or self-worth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It took a long journey to get to where I am today. A lot of lonely nights and deep thoughts after I stop playing football.
Many people during college have an idea of what and where they are going. I had no idea after college because my goal was to always play football. Being a high achiever once professional football did not work out I slide into a slight depression. After I finally got out I knew others, even none athletes, go, go through slides as I did. I wanted to teach them how to get out of it.
Self Love Tuesday began, asking one day of the week to love yourself just a tad bit more. Then, I built the brand around self-love. Now to do my podcast Self Love University, as well as a blog. All of it is just trying to teach people who are sliding and having depressing thoughts that they can get off that rollercoaster.
I am not perfect by any means but I hope the story and perspective I come from helps heal their heart.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love all things Atlanta sports. Going to those games with friends and having a great time is a bonus. You can say whatever you want about Atlanta sports but you can’t say you won’t have a good time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be here if it was for my family and friends’ support. When they say it takes a village to raises a child; they also should have said it takes one to take risks as well.
Most importantly, I have to thank God, without him I am only a man but with him, I can achieve the unachievable.
