We had the good fortune of connecting with The Black Fashion Week and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The Black, how does your business help the community?
Our business is completely community based. We put on high-fashion, fashion events in underserved communities. Our shows are all inclusive, so we accept everyone as a model and train them in several runway styles. We are breaking stereotypes and tearing down the world of beauty standards. Fashion is for everyone.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
A clothing brand CEO, a photographer,, and a Poet walked inside a bar. Sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but in reality, it was the start of a fashion Mecca. Three like-minded individuals all with different creative abilities merged to create something for a community that is overlooked.
Historically Fashion has not been inclusive to everyone. We set out to change that narrative; regardless of gender, ethnicity, size, or background.
What we do:
We provide high-level fashion shows, similar to mainstream fashion weeks, but specifically for minority communities. We coordinate the LARGEST All-Inclusive fashion shows of the south. Over 500 in attendance not including livestream, and our model base is continuously growing; our previous show featured 70+ models, 13 Designers and 25 small businesses.
Our Purpose:
At The Black Fashion Week our mission is to supply minority businesses and creatives with equal opportunities to generate revenue and exposure.
Our Motto is that “Anybody can be a model, regardless of age, ethnicity, or background”.
Our program trains experienced and aspiring models in European style and
Theatrical walks.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to dedicate this shout out to our team Nadja, Tiffany, Dani, Elijah, Andrea, Ticay (Christina), and Maria. We would not be the success we are without you all!
