We had the good fortune of connecting with Tami Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tami, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by so many things I see around me but mainly my own family

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started with humble beginnings coming from Cleveland, Ohio. I was homeless while my mom was incarcerated while I was in high school. I was a squatter living in an abandoned house for 2yrs or so. After high school, I went off to college and graduated. First in my family to graduate from high school and college. I came home for college, went to beauty school and opened up my very own nail salon called, Nails By Tami. Did that for 10 years before getting married and having two kids. Sold the business soon after.

I am very proud of having a family and achieving those goals and dreams. Then I transitioned to the south, Atlanta, Ga in 2005 where then I caught the tv bug and started my own tv show, Talking with Tami. I always had a passion for women in business and that’s what my show was initially about. From there my brand grew and grew and I never looked back! Was it hard? Hell yes, it was the hardest but most rewarding thing I’ve ever done! I received a proclamation from the City of Atlanta and other awards but the proclamation was a huge honor for me!

Challenges were people not believe in me, telling me I was a dreamer and it wouldn’t work, money was extremely tight but I kept going! I stayed consistent and kept a great team around me. Now almost 20yrs later, I’m still doing all facets of media and continuing to grow and learn daily. Lessons Ive learned is to stay current and keep good energy and knowledgeable people around me. Stay consistent and focused.

I have a few things in the works but my passion is still helping women in business, homeless women and giving them platforms to see and learn from others that came before them. Encouraging them along the way by them seeing that a girl from Cleveland is doing it, they can too and live out their dreams!
