We had the good fortune of connecting with Suzanne Nadell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suzanne, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My goal is to help women who feel overwhelmed from the hustle of juggling faith, family, and career. It’s a lot, and the expectations of women are a lot. That can result in feelings of failure and isolation. I want women to know they are not failures, and they are far from alone.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m the News Director of WSB-TV in Atlanta. That means I’m in charge of the entire news department, editorial direction and personnell. I started in the news business as a production assistant, then producer and reporter. I entered management as an Executive Producer, and then got a shot to lead newsrooms. I’ve served as a News Director in Tulsa, Pittsburgh, and now Atlanta for nearly five years. My biggest “Life Lessons” are that I’m not alone. There are others who have experienced or are experiencing the same challenges. I’ve also learned that my toughest times always end up being the times I look back on as my times of immense growth. Finally, I’ve learned to keep some perspective. Some things that I thought were HUGE and kept me up at night when I was new to management, I now realize were because I lost perspective. Keep proper perspective and prioritize.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the fact that Atlanta is so close to the mountains, so we’d definitely take a day trip to the mountains. Piedmont Park still makes me smile. It’s just so beautiful right in the middle of the city.
Of course, I’d take them to visit the WSB-TV studios.
And I believe a “must” is hitting some of the museums and historic sights in the city. The Carter Center. The King Center. The Civil Rights Museum and others.
We’d probably try to get to a Braves game too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have had great bosses and mentors with Cox Media Group throughout my career. I’m blessed to have worked for an Atlanta-based media company for more than two decades. Many of my mentors in the company were women who shared their “Life Lessons”, and men who understood the importance of giving female leaders a chance. I also have to give my husband and son BIG shoutouts. My husband put his career on the backburner and was the parent who stayed at home while I climbed the career ladder.
