We had the good fortune of connecting with Summer D’on and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Summer, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I believe that the key to success is, and will always be consistency. If you are wanting to get ahead in your career path and passions you cannot be lazy with that goal. Once you set your heart to a future aspiration, you should put your all into it – it becomes apart of you. I always incorporate my Christian values into my everyday life, and the Bible says, “Faith without works is dead…” I believe that you cannot wish for a goal for yourself without putting the work required in. Consistency within yourself and your brand makes all the difference – setting a schedule, making healthy habits without your aspirations, creating an every working routine, even incorporating appropriate time off to yourself, If you are serious about what your goals are, it will show.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I founded D’on Cosmetics in 2015, but the official launch was October of 2020. D’on Cosmetics is a black and woman-owned cosmetic company that takes pride in producing cruelty-free and vegan makeup for all ages, races, and genders! I wanted to create a brand that represented me and everything I loved within makeup artistry, while also being beginner-friendly and accessible to everyone. Being that I being freelancing as a makeup artist in 2014, I have had a lot of experience and expertise with the industry, and I make sure to display it through my products!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Atlanta for many reasons: the people, the atmosphere, the busyness, and the many attractions that draw travelers to the city! Housing more than 100,000 sea creatures, the Georgia Aquarium is the world’s largest and one of my favorite tourist attractions of the city! You can’t come to GA without visiting the aquarium as well as the Coca-Cola factory, where you’re able to taste all the coke products of the world under one roof, learn about the history of the amazing company, and see production right in front of you! Since I am vegetarian, Slutty Vegan is a must – you wouldn’t even think twice that you’re not actually eating any meat! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends! They both push me to my fullest potential and continue to believe in me every step of the way, whether it is for my business, my content, or just to keep going in all areas!
