We had the good fortune of connecting with Star Dillard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Star, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is ME! I never gave up on ME! Even when it got hard and when people doubted me or when people didn’t quite see my vision, I never gave up! Yes I had my days where I doubted myself, and days where I found it hard to find clarity, but I never let that stop me or consume me! I adjust very well to most situations! I moved a lot as a child, so that’s one thing I mastered, and I’m thankful for that skill!
Another factor is my relationships! I value every relationship I have, and a strive to always put my best foot forward so that I leave my mark with whomever might walk into my path. As I build and maintain my relationships with people I’ve met a long the way, I find that maintaining the relationships is the hardest part for most people! Lucky for me this has always been something I have been great at!
I’ve always been an excellent communicator! In this industry communication can make or break you! You have to be able to communicate efficiently with people! Staying true to my word as well, if I say I’m going to do something, I follow through! You have to keep your face card clean!!!!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Rising Star Entertainment is a full service Entertainment Marketing, Event & Talent Management Firm! One thing that sets us apart from most Marketing Companies, we operate off of referrals! We do not solicit clients or do any heavy marketing to promote our firm! You have to know someone whose worked with us before, keeps us very exclusive but we also provide personalized marketing plans customized to fit the need!
No it wasn’t easy! At all! Everyday is a fight, but would I change a thing……nope! Most people think being an entrepreneur and working for yourself is easy, it’s not! You have to be extremely self motivated and dedicated to the mission or vision! And on top of that, you have to constantly make decisions. There’s days you feel discouraged and defeated, but you still have to push forward. You have to hustle hard, everyday! Then mix that with being a woman in a male dominated industry……..a black woman at that!!!! No this isn’t easy and it’s definitely not for the weak! This hustle made me mentally stronger, I learned patience, I learned self love. I learned self respect building this business, by myself!
Rising Star Entertainment came from a place of passion because most people don’t understand how deep my love for music goes! I’m a singer! Most people don’t know I actually sing, I moved to Atlanta to be an artist and get a college education! It was at Clark Atlanta University that I realized my talents stretched further than just being an artist, I was a creative and that soon grew into becoming an artist visionary!
I want the world to know Star Dillard is unstoppable! Star Dillard is a Black Woman who never gave up even when all odd were stacked against her! Star Dillard is a fighter! Star Dillard is a hustler! Star Dillard has a heart of gold and always finds ways to give back to her community! Star Dillard has dedicated her life to helping people! She’s always striving for the next thing!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Georgia Aquarium is always a good one, I love it! I love Pasha Atl for dinner and good drinks. Pure Taqueria on a Taco Tuesday! iLounge on a Friday night to listen to Dj Dynamite spin in East Atlanta is one of my favorite spots! I love low key spots with a vibe! I love Botanical Gardens too! And the High Museum! I love Red Snapper so I’d go to Rodney’s Jamaican Resturant on Cobb Parkway! And for seafood lovers, you have to go to Priates Boil in Cobb County off Cobb Parkway!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family & friends! Although they didn’t quite get it when I was first starting, they never discouraged me! They always pushed me to be my best self.
I’ve had a few mentors a long the way, but Tyreal Lewis was my first mentor and he was the first person in the industry to believe in me and my full potential. Still to this day he tells me he is proud but still wants to see more from me!
Denise Thompson is my mentor as well, she has just always seen my full potential and has always encouraged me to keep aiming higher! I’m thankful for her!
My life coach, yes I have a life coach, everyone should have one, it’s the best thing ever! She just brings so much clarity to my purpose and challenges me to challenge myself!
