Today we’re excited to be connecting with Star Dillard again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Star, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
I am Star Dillard, “The Artist Visionary,” a multi-talented professional with a remarkable journey in the entertainment industry and business world. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, my passion for music led me to audition for American Idol during my freshman year at Clark Atlanta University, marking the beginning of my journey in the music industry.

In 2014, I founded Rising Star Entertainment, a platform dedicated to supporting independent artists across Atlanta, the Southeast, and internationally. I have had the privilege of collaborating with industry talents and have worked closely with Atlanta’s top radio stations, including Hot 107.9, Streetz 94.5, and V103, on projects designed to uplift independent artists. Additionally, I have provided platforms for artists at prestigious events such as Grammy Week, A3C, Atlanta Hip-Hop Day, SxSw, and showcases in Miami. My dedication to growth and innovation has earned me a reputation as a trusted industry professional.

Beyond the entertainment industry, I remain committed to giving back to my community. I actively support the local non-profit organization Breaking the Chains, which provides opportunities for underserved youth in Atlanta. In 2022, I was honored to join the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women in Business program, collaborating with top professionals to elevate my business. In 2024, I expanded my expertise into Tour and Show Management, serving as the Tour Manager for Keri Hilson on the R&B Money Tour and supporting shows with Tyga, further solidifying my leadership in the industry.

My unwavering determination and innovative spirit continue to drive me forward, inspiring others and proving that hard work and resilience can turn dreams into reality.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
In 2022, I was honored to be selected from a pool of over 5,000 applicants to join the prestigious Goldman Sachs: One Million Black Women in Business program. That summer, I successfully completed the intensive 12-week program, an experience that ignited a deeper passion for business, branding, and management.

Since then, my career has flourished as I’ve honed my expertise and explored new opportunities in management. In 2023, I took a major step into tour management, serving as Keri Hilson’s tour manager on Tank’s R&B Money Tour—an unforgettable experience that solidified my passion for the industry.

This year, my focus is on building my personal brand and amplifying my presence. I’m embracing my vision of becoming the Black Kris Jenner—a powerhouse in business, branding, and talent management. I refuse to be boxed in because I excel in multiple arenas, and I’m committed to stepping outside my comfort zone, taking bold risks, and not allowing fear of the unknown to hold me back. The best is yet to come!

Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
1. Define the Core Objective
Before making any decision, I clarify what truly matters. What’s the ultimate goal? Having a clear objective helps filter out noise and focus on what aligns with my values and priorities.

2. Gather & Analyze Information
I take a step back and assess all relevant data. What are the risks, rewards, and potential consequences? I also seek insights from those who have experience in similar situations. Data-driven decisions often lead to better outcomes.

3. Weigh Short-Term vs. Long-Term Impact
Some choices provide immediate relief but may hurt in the long run, while others require short-term sacrifices for long-term gains. I always consider sustainability—will this choice set me up for continued success?

4. Trust My Intuition
While logic plays a significant role, I also listen to my gut. My gut has never steered me wrong yet! If something feels off, even when the numbers add up, I take a pause. Experience has taught me that intuition often picks up on things logic might miss.

5. Accept That No Decision is Perfect
Every choice involves tradeoffs. Instead of chasing a perfect solution, I focus on the best *possible* solution given the circumstances. I remind myself that growth often comes from discomfort.

6. Commit & Adapt
Once I make a decision, I commit to it fully while staying adaptable. If new information emerges, I adjust accordingly. The ability to pivot when needed is just as important as making the initial choice.
