We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonya Vaverek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonya, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success is faith and family. Without family support, support from friends and community we would not have grown to the extent that we have today. Without faith we would not have the courage to pursue our dreams and passions. You hear community is very important in growth of a business, that is true. You also have to work to maintain those relationships and build that community. Another factor is constantly learning, you have to realize there is always something new to learn and you always have room for growth. If you get stuck in your ways without continuing to learn and grow, you become stagnant. We can not give enough thanks to our family, friends, clients, and community for their support.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been baking since I can remember. I grew up in a house where my mom baked weekly and taught me how to bake. After college I realized I wanted to become a pastry chef, instead I choose to follow my husband and raise our family. I took that time to practice, experiment and learn everything I could about baking. Baking is a science as well as an art. It takes practice and a huge learning curve. I spent many years and had a lot of failures to perfect my recipes. I also work hard to incorporate as many fresh and local ingredients as I can in my recipes. Supporting local farmers and growers is so important to us, and using fresh, quality ingredients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That is tough question!! A great place to have a fun evening is Revival Hall in Jefferson, Georgia. I also love to go to Slow Pour Brewery in Lawrenceville, GA. For food, we love to go to Over the Top Burger in Buford, Georgia. Wunderbar Bierhaus and Euro Bistro in Sugar Hill, GA is a fun and unique place for authentic German food and great drinks.

For attractions – we prefer to go to local festivals and browse through downtown areas. We search out neat areas to browse and find unique, local stores. Some that come to mind are downtown Monroe area, the Athens Farmers market, and downtown Suwanee area.

We would also take a day trip up to the mountains in my Jeep. Go for some trail rides and tour around some of the towns around North Georgia.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many to give a shoutout to for our success. First, God. Second, our family. Third – our friends and community!
