We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheree M. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheree, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Sophie Rose Candle Co. helps the community as well as the world by creating Eco-friendly and sustainable products. We want our products to not only smell great but to be gentle on the environment. We also take a holistic approach to self care by making products that encourage our community to care for self (meditation, relaxation, etc.). This is needed now more than ever given our current state of uncertainty.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in the art of candle making. I have had an affinity for candles for as long as I can remember. Candles are comforting stress relievers for me but they can also be pretty toxic. Sophie Rose Candle Co. began on my journey to holistic health and an unwillingness to kick my candle addiction. I curated my first line of Eco-friendly nontoxic candles with the need to keep my space safe and free from toxins, What sets Sophie Rose Candle Co. apart from others is that we want our products to be enjoyed with meaningful purpose; therefore, we ensure that our products are both Eco-friendly and vegan-friendly. Sustainability is a priority interest for Sophie Rose Candle Co. so we strongly encourage the re-purposing of our product containers. Every candle we pour and every room spray we craft is done with love and intention. We strongly believe that love is felt with every lighting of our candles and with every spritz of our room sprays. As a company, I am most proud of the genuine connections we make with our customers whom I affectionately refer to as Rose Buds. Our purpose is reaffirmed each time a Rose Bud allows us to fill their safe space with aromatic awesomeness. We are because of them!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am mostly a home body but I do like to eat! Some of my favorite spots in the city to eat are Plant Based Pizzeria, Sweet Auburn Seafood, Le Petit Marche Tom, Dick & Hank, First Batch AF Vegan Ice Cream, Negril Village and Rosie’s Cafe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout Darryl Harris, owner of Moods Music, for being the very first retail company to believe in Sophie Rose Candle Co. Our partnership has been nothing short of amazing and we look forward to our continued success with Darryl and Moods Music. I would also like to shoutout Dymetra Pernell, CEO of First Batch Artisan Foods and Dr. Key Hallmon, Founder of The Village Market ATL. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have these two intelligent and genuine women as part of my village. Both of these amazing women have been supportive of me and Sophie Rose Candle Co. since day one. Both have inspired me to continue to strive for greatness and have been a constant reminder of Black woman excellence.
