We had the good fortune of connecting with Shardae Layfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shardae, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has played a major role in my everyday life as well as in my career. It takes a tremendous amount of confidence in yourself, first and foremost, to take risks and bet on yourself. The risk of creating a business and even a product increases because you never know how receptive your potential audience will be, no matter how much research you’ve done. The increased amount of risk you take directly affects how eager and intense you’re going to react and adapt to changes within your business and business needs to make it a success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
CANDY x PAINTS was created to provide cleaner, more conscious products that anyone can use in their everyday life. C x P is a Leaping Bunny & PeTA-certified vegan, cruelty-free, non-toxic and 10-free, inclusive nail care brand… with the spirit of Atlanta sprinkled in, which definitely sets us apart. We not only want our products to be clean, uncompromising, and long-lasting, but we also want to share what we love with our customers and community. I am excited with the growth CANDY x PAINTS has experienced along with upcoming opportunities for the brand. I also am proud of our company mission..to not only offer clean nail care products to the beauty space, but also recognizing and speaking up regarding diversity within the cosmetics world and to consistently showcase the beauty of diverse representation. I came to create CANDY x PAINTS by recognizing how so many harmful chemicals are incorporated in so many common products, especially in nail care and it sure wasn’t easy. There is so much research that has to be done when creating a product, but during the process, I learned that you can’t rush anything, especially if you want to maintain a higher standard and provide quality products.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooooh, this is fun! If my bestie came to visit in the city… we’d have to visit some yummy food spots! Maybe a great breakfast at Murphy’s and then chill for a bit on the Eastside of Atlanta during the earlier part of the day. For the afternoon, we would probably hang out at the Ponce City Market Rooftop before catching our lunch date at either, Upbeet, Slutty Vegan, or Flower Child… because they have some awesome vegan options that can still be filling but leave room for a great dinner sesh! For dinner, we’d definitely check out True Food!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We’d love to shoutout all of our super supportive family, friends, and amazing C x P community for always providing the best feedback and suggestions for more opportunities of growth.
