We had the good fortune of connecting with Scotty “SB” Bollinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scotty “SB”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is something that is, in my opinion, something that is absolutely necessary in both business and creative growth. Without it, you will find yourself getting complacent and stagnant in your journey. Risk has always been something that I have been comfortable with taking both in my professional and personal life. It is an opportunity to push beyond what you originally thought was possible. When taking any risk, you have two outcomes; you either succeed and move forward or you don’t quite hit the mark you were shooting for and can learn from the experience to be able to recalculate and try again.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own Wrapped By SB. What started out as me making decals and such out of the back of my truck at car meets has evolved into something I never thought. We currently are a full scale print shop offering everything from company branding, vehicle wraps, apparel and all things wide format printing. We also have an entire custom end of things that includes illustrations, and custom vehicle designs. We have worked on everything from 50+ year old classic muscle cars to brand new exotic vehicles and everything in between. One of the things that I am most proud of, is that I have built something from nothing and continue to grow everyday with every project. I also have built something in which not only I benefit from, everyone involved grows day in and day out. Growing my business, especially at the rate that I have grown over the last few years has not been easy at all. It is a lot of long hours, stress, and dedication sticking to my mission. There are some times when it feels like I haven’t been home in weeks to sit down and relax, but when I look back and see how far we have come it makes it worth it. Sometimes it is just best to put your head down and get to work and not look up. I can’t count the amount of lessons I’ve learned along my almost 10 years in business, but the one that has stuck to me the most is that your work always speaks more for you than you ever could. If you do good work, you don’t need to go above and beyond marketing. Keep your clients happy every single day and they will be the best advertising you could ask for. I am extremely grateful for how my business has evolved since I started, and there is no where to go but up. The only thing that separates you from doing what you want to do is yourself. If you get out of your own way and do not let your mind limit what’s possible there is no telling where you can go. Just. Keep. Pushing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cleveland, Ohio is one of those cities that has so much life and character in it that there is always something going on no matter what you’re into. But for me, there are a few main spots that if you’ve never been to Cleveland are a must. The normal touristy things like that Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the Cleveland Museum of Art are musts. There are so many great bars and restaurants in the city and surrounding the area that you can’t go wrong on where you go. But aside from the normal touristy things, we also have an amazing car culture here with Recharge Automotive. Any given weekend during spring, summer and fall we have something going on, wether it is a car meet as a local restaurant, a cruise through the metro parks on a beautiful day or just getting together with like minded people for a couple drinks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success can be attributed to just about everyone that I have come across in life, but there are a few people that stand out for their continued influence and support. My girlfriend, dad and best friends are the best support group I could ask for and I cannot thank them enough. My dad has been self employed for the last 35+ years, so growing up I have always been around someone who had no choice but to be self-motivated and push to do better day in and day out. I can directly credit my work ethic and that strive to always be one step better than the day before to him. My girlfriend is someone who has came into my life more recently than the others, but from the get go she has shown nothing but support for my journey both creatively and professionally. If I am having a rough day she goes above and beyond to lift me up and helps get my head back into the game. My best friends are all creatives to some extent, they help me fuel my creativity, we work on projects together, bounce ideas off of each other and most importantly give each other constructive criticism when needed that others may not ever say. I can honestly say without all of these people in my life, I would not be where I am at today.
