We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Feigenbaum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I think the best habit to get into (if you want to call it a habit) is having a good sense of humor. The universe is entropic by nature, and you can’t get bogged down trying to control everything. Life is way too short to take things too seriously, so learn to laugh at the struggles and take them in stride! Everything, especially chasing a passion, is much more enjoyable when you have a positive outlook.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My artistic passion is photography, specifically portraits and documentary. I’m feel pretty humble about my work, but I guess I’m most proud of the work that helps other people. Whether it’s portraits that increase confidence, a Linkedin headshot that helps them get noticed by companies, or documenting the important moments in life that can be remembered for years to come. I believe my photography is best done in the service of others.

The challenges of photography are naturally plentiful. As a photographer, your brain has to be in several places at once. Lighting, composition, styling, editing, networking, and business management are just a few that come to mind. It can be daunting to try and overcome everything at once, so you just need to approach it with practice and patience. Always be looking for the next opportunity, and love the mistakes you make along the way- they’re better teachers than success ever will be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My absolute favorite spot in the city is Victory Sandwich Bar, both in Decatur and Inman Park. They have some really excellent options for food and drinks there, and at pretty affordable prices too! My favorite is grabbing a Tea Bird sandwich (spicy grilled chicken!) with a Jack & Coke slushie, along with some seasoned popcorn for the table. It’s hard to beat a local watering hole that has some good bites!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really want to give a shoutout to all of my supportive friends and family, but most importantly my wife. She always pushes me to keep working at my passion, even when I feel like a complete couch potato dud. From helping me network to hanging my photo prints on the wall, I know I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today without her. She is my forever adventure buddy.
