We had the good fortune of connecting with Sagan Morrow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sagan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I’m a solopreneur with anxiety and chronic insomnia/nightmare disorder, so work life balance is something I used to struggle with a lot… It felt like one of those elusive things that was beyond my capability. But one of the beautiful realizations I’ve had over the years is that work life balance doesn’t need to be nearly as challenging as we think! It got to the point where I was so frustrated that I decided something needed to change.
From there, I began experimenting much more with my business structure, reframed my approach to time management and organizational skills, and developed my signature “anti-hustle” productivity methods—which have been a total gamechanger for helping me (and my clients) enjoy true work life balance.
I consider a great work life balance to be the type when your professional life supports your personal life goals—not the other way around. Everything about the way that I manage my business (and the way my clients now manage their own businesses, regardless of their unique life and business circumstances) is specifically designed to increase energy levels and provide the space and capacity for living life fully, without burning out or making sacrifices in the workplace. Learn more about how to do this for yourself with my (free!) anti-hustle productivity training, 3 Steps to 10x Your Productivity, available right here: SaganMorrow.com/training
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m an anti-hustle Productivity Strategist & Success Coach at SaganMorrow.com: I help solopreneurs save 10+ hours/week without the overwhelm, scale their business sustainably, and design a business that supports their lifestyle values and goals. My work as a Productivity Strategist & Success Coach also involves working with leaders and organizations to streamline their systems and strategies, build motivation and accountability in their teams, achieve true work/life balance, and get more done in less time—without the burnout or overwhelm.
At SaganMorrow.com, we believe that toxic productivity and the glorification of busy work is the antithesis to true productivity. My business is changing the narrative of productivity, eschewing hustle culture, and eliminating burnout and overwhelm for solopreneurs and professionals across the globe. It’s a revolutionary approach to productivity, and the results my clients get speak for themselves!
I think what I’m most proud of is the way that solopreneurs and leaders from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and businesses have all consistently achieved great success and enjoy abundant work life balance: I’ve worked with freelancers, creatives, coaches, bricks-and-mortar business owners, project managers; parents of small children; side hustlers with 9 to 5 jobs; aspiring business owners; established business owners; people with ADHD; all of them experience improved productivity and greater success, because the methodologies and framework I use when working with them are fully customized to their unique situation. You can learn more about how all of this can work for you, too, with my free productivity training, 3 Steps to 10x Your Productivity: SaganMorrow.com/training
It took me many years to get to this point, with a lot of trial and error. I didn’t come out of the womb being productive! In fact, when I started my business over a decade ago as a freelancer, I was extremely disorganized and frazzled. But I’m a very multi-passionate person, and as someone who has chronic anxiety, insomnia, and nightmare disorder, I knew that I needed to figure out a better way to manage my business… None of the “traditional” productivity methods were really working for my brain and my personality. I wanted more time and energy to be able to enjoy hobbies, too.
That’s what led me to developing my own fully customizable methodologies—and as a result, I’ve been able to grow my business while enjoying plenty of rest, freedom, and a flexible schedule, while still showing up fully for my clients. It’s also enabled me to follow my dream of writing polyamorous romance novels “on the side” of my business. In fact, during the key months when I was fine-tuning my signature anti-hustle productivity strategies, I was able to write and publish six novels within 18 months!
An important lesson I’ve learned over my years of business is that there is no one-size-fits-all template that we can copy and paste. Instead, we must be intentional, mindful, and strategic with our actions plans… we need to customize everything, make use of personality-based productivity, and design our businesses in a way that works for our unique life values and goals.
Understanding this has helped my business to flourish—as well as my clients’—and it’s why I’m so passionate about working with other solopreneurs and leaders to empower them to design a professional life that truly supports their personal life, too. My mission is to empower 100% of my clients and readers to identify what they truly want from life (personally and professionally)… and to take intentional and aligned action on designing that heart-happy life for themselves by making their own rules, in ethical and ecological congruence—with clarity, courage, and sustainability built into their ideas and plans.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My live-streaming BFF, Jennifer Gardner of RoamHowl Creative! We met each other virtually and did weekly livestreams throughout the first year of the pandemic, having public conversations on all things related to business and creativity. It was a wonderful light to look forward to each week, and so good to share encouragement and inspiration with each other and our viewers.
