We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodney Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodney, why did you pursue a creative career?
I believe that being raised in an entrepreneurial environment as a kid really developed my creative side.. Paying attention to the different cultures and how things develop around you. I think there is always a why, to how people react to the service you are rendering to them. Throughout the years I’ve learned that your life is your canvas, and everyone has their own uniqueness. The expression , the connection , the giving , really feels great. Its an opportunity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being around professionals at an early age while growing up was a big influence. My dad was an owner of a couple of night clubs and also his own paint and body shop for 50+ years. My mentor was the owner of an accounting firm for 30+ years until until present. Even with the positive influences when your young sometimes you conform to the wrong influences . Life is not easy its hard work. When you make mistakes and you are, you learn from it and you move on . You recognize what’s good for you and what is not. So we fall back to the word why. Why are these things happening to me. Why am i in the position i am in. Mental awareness was a big turn around in my life. The Christian foundation along with wanting to be better example for me and my kids and my community was an important factor in my life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Certain seafood restaurants , MIYAKO Westheimer is probably one of my favorite. Pappadeux Seafood and most recently i went to GEN Korean BBQ HOUSTON. If your from out of town make sure you make your reservations at the Turkey Leg HUT , its defenitely an experience. The food is great. Actually i spend most of my time at a park downtown called Discovery Green .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely would like to give my mentor Phil Stephenson a shout for being a part of my life and the support he has given throughout these last few decades. Good times or bad times the loyalty is unquestionable. Surely the Go Dj Global organization who gave me the opportunity and the platform to take my creativity to the next level . Shout out Go Dj Hi C (Craig Williams) & the ABN family from Houston, Tx. If you” ve ever participated or showed love to anything , interacted to what we do , you are definitely appreciated. the encourage is well received. To the ladies that make things beautiful with your creativity and being who you are. We thank you. Last but not least i would like to thank God & family. It all starts with you.
