We had the good fortune of connecting with Rika and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rika, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Life is like a camera. Focus on what’s important. Capture the good times. And if things don’t work out, just take another shot.” This quote resonates with me because it reminds me to only give my attention to things in my life that serve me the most and never give up no matter what adversities you may encounter. Life always throws us curve balls, but it’s up to you to create your path for greatness despite any shortcomings. With starting my photography business, I have experienced many pitfalls and obstacles along my journey but I did not let that stop me from chasing my dream. In turn, I’ve used failures to motivate me to be better and do better, to be an inspiration and help others who want to walk the same path. It’s taught me to get back up, pick up my camera and take another shot at this thing called life. You never know who is counting on you, so you have to keep going! #destinedforgreatness
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is capturing emotion through my lens! (Yes, I am a professional photographer!) With being a photographer, I enjoy connecting with people and the mood in the atmosphere, turning a not so beautiful backdrop into a gorgeous scene and adding with my editing touches to enhance their beauty. Exploring a passion or venturing out on a new business endeavor comes with many many ups and downs (no thanks to covid-19), but I am most proud of recently being the exclusive photographer for a natural hair 3 day retreat (IG: @naturalhairretreat) that was held in Orlando, FL. There were and are many lessons I’ve learned along the way, but most recently I have learned to exceed expectations. You know how you think or have that big grand idea but you shy away from it. Due to recent times, I am challenging myself to lean into it and move through those emotions and tap in to exceed expectations. No matter if it takes a little more time or cost, I owe it to myself to lean into what could make me greater and prove to me that I can be the best version of myself!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
