We had the good fortune of connecting with Ric Holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ric, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to stay connected to basketball. And my love for shoes was my way to do that. I’ve always wanted to create custom shoes for basketball players. Cleanings and restorations became apart of the business because I knew that would always keep me in business. Everybody needs a few pairs of sneakers cleaned.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My sneaker art is classic colorways that pay homage to older Nike shoes. I love hearing “these look like they came out the store” when my customs are created. A custom that doesn’t look custom is usually my goal. Of course the journey wasn’t easy but that’s the fun part of it. Figuring out how to move forward and be great in the lane you want to be in. My biggest lesson is that, it’s always something to learn. Always room to improve and grow. My brand will continue to grow and be a platform for artist to grow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is a smooth city. People think it’s bigger than what it is but it’s fun stuff to do. There’s a few restaurants like Jaybee’s tenders, sublime, and fish house that are my favs. Something fun to check out would be the Peach Cobbler Custom Sneaker making class!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I meet a basketball trainer by the name of P-rok. He’s influenced me in business and in my personal life. He’s taught me a lot in the short time that I’ve known him. He provided the shoes for my first restoration job and we been locked in since. He’s always dropping gems and giving free game.
