We had the good fortune of connecting with Raymond Webber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raymond, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Legacy… when I set out to work for myself I wanted to touch as many lives as possible and create a business that in 10 years could run it’s self and my children will reap the benefits from it.

What should our readers know about your business?
MTAG sports and fitness complex is the largest single owned , black owned sports complex In the state of Georgia. It’s 48,000 square feet with a full nba court, 60 yard turf field , batting cages, yoga studio and office space. We started out training outside but the weather drove us in doors. Our first building which was 4,000 square feet I took all the money I had saved which was about $4300 took a chance and built out a facility that lasted for 3 years. The beginning was hard when I say built out i literally had to build the squat racks, lay the turf myself, change the lights and fix the entire building. Being from St. Louis it was a struggle initially to gain clientele. I used my marketing degree to creat campaigns to drive people towards my location. Augusta is a area led by large chain style gyms so creating a small facility with that same format and mindset was a challenge. Most people accredited my success early on my Nfl career which was a huge misconception. None of the money I made playing football was put into MTAG when I started this business I had none of it left. We’ve been in business for 6 years now and we’ve trained over 1000 athletes from all over the world. We’ve had more than 100 kids go to college in different sports and a ton of professional athletes playing all over the globe. One thing we pride ourselves on is the impact we are able to make in everyday lives. Whereas it’s helping people lead a healthy lifestyle, helping our clients get off their medications because they get in shape, be an outlet for people to release stress, take kids to pro sporting events or give back to the less fortunate. This 6 year journey has been worth it..

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would pick them up in a sprinter van provided by legacy luxury transportation I would take them first to MTAG and work out lol. Then I would take them downtown to Augusta reserve and ride water sports to ride jet skis. Stop on james brown blvd and do some shopping at Came From Nothing Fashions then end the night going to Truth nightclub , oak lounge, garden city or studio neighborhood bar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughters, Kylee Noah and Jada. You girls are my why and my motivation. Leaving a legacy that makes you girls proud to be the daughters of Raymond Webber is my one goal. I want you to have a better life than I did growing up and make decisions because you want to not because you have to.
